18.97 Dip Switches

Hello,

Ok, I'm going back to basics...does anyone know the correct Dip switch settings for an 18.97 using a 9L or 10L motor?

Yes, I've read the manual several times and my truck runs just fine but it runs hot and I don't understand what the timing hard/soft and timing softer and frequency Dips should be set at and why.

I also did a search to make sure this hasn't been covered already but can't find anything telling me what to set these at...thanks.

I personally would try the softest settings to start with, on 9khz.. 9Khz gives the 18.97 a lower load than the 19khz setting. (the 18.97 must work twice as hard on 19 khz)

you should set it on boat or on car. (car is reccomended)

What is running hot? on how many cells? is it the motor or the speedo? did you measured the temp or did you probed with your hand?

Just try the different settings, starting with the softest, and measure both the motor and the speedo.

You are using a heatsink for your motor?

Hey serum. What does running on different frequency do? I running mine on the 9 khz now.

It are the pulses that build up the complete puls to make a 1/3 of the motor turn (1/3rd of the 3 phases of the motor) with 9Khz, the controller works on half the total speed of the 19 Khz

Some kind of sample frequency of the cd-player. (don't know if you are familiar with that principle?)

Ok. Does that mean some times it works better on the 19k? A cd works better on the higher one.

That's because of the bandwith you need to reach higher frequencies. (which is good for harmonics/higher frequencies you don't hear but are of influence on the hearable frequencies)

The better magnets like the 19 khz over the 9khz.. (i though) a feigao would be better of on 9khz imo..

OK! thanks serum. One day I may be as wise as you are. Until then I have to ask questions. I stick with the 9 for now. If I get me a lehner or another quality motor. I'll try the 19.

Testing never hurts! just a matter of using a temp gun to see what you are doing..

I learned the hard way on temp gun. It would have been cheaper to buy the temp gun than motor. 2 passes and fried the motor. :(

Nope. xl 2000 with 18 cells and to high geared. Was testing a different set up. OH WELL. Nothing but money. Can't take it with me. May as well have fun with it. That little motor was right impressive i must say. :eek:

Yep the 18.97. the controler is still going strong. I going to run it until it burns. I had a 7018 on the 7 xl at first. :lol I know it don't match up. I wanted to try a brushless configuration. I have been hooked ever since. If only I had known about this place then. The 7018 lasted a good bit. It was a tough one. I got the best of it though.
