I'll chime in on that one. I was lucky enough to TQ and win the E-Maxx class yesterday. At my local track, Xtreme RC, we (myself and a few friends of mine who also run Brushless like 2nd Qual Mike G and 3rd Qual Joey D) almost always beat the Nitro guys. Matter of fact, they have been so tired of us winning they asked the track owner to split the classes up. One of our regular's is Leo M who Qualified 5th in the Small Block and 5th in the Big Block A Main (and that's saying something) Leo and I battle quite hard but I usually edge him out. What happened at Madness is simply that the E-Maxx class is VERY diverse and unfortunately very small. That means you have guys like Mike G and Mike C running fast and other guys who are new to racing that, well, make it hard to get around them. I didn't run a perfect race but I know that any of my laps which were slow were likely because another truck hit me as I was lapping them or there was a pile up on the landing of a jump or something like that. In the Nitro class, because of the reshuffle in the rounds, all the A main guys drive at a similar pace. Take an A main nitro and stick him in the E main and his lap times will suffer as he is working around traffic, some of which may not be able to get out of the way or may not want him to pass even though it is racing etiquette to let a leader by when going a lap down.
My best lap was in the 34.745, which is right up there with the A main's of both big block and small block. During Qualifing, most of the BB and SB A main drivers were doing 9 laps, Mike G and I got 9 laps. There were guys I had to lap 4 times to finish, and in 5 minutes that's just not easy. When I was out practicing I could see that I and other fast E's were on pace with the best guys running Maxx type trucks. The truggies had us licked, nothing I can say about that and the 1/8th always lay down sick laps.
I really think the problem with our laps this year was the diversity in the class. With that said, I'm very happy and proud of the guys who ran in the class. It takes a lot of guts to get out there and compete in an event on this level. I WISH more of you would take your trucks down from the shelf or backyard and get them out on the track. I had hoped we would go A/B/C main this year. Many guys who I expected to see didn't show. RC Monster Mike has created this amazing resource for us all, we help eachother and hopefully we can all bring our trucks out and race now and again. If anyone needs help, this community is ready to answer. I really hope to see more of you on the track and hope our class continues to grow. New products are making it easier to race and Electric Monster well and have fun doing it.
