Various Hacker motor questions - 02.28.2008, 09:59 PM

So I finished my hyper buggy with the hacker c50 maxx motor.

The motor shaft broke on me earlier, it is only 1/8" so that was almost expected!

Anyway, I have quite a few hacker c50 motors, and the c50 maxx is the same can length as a c50 l but has a shorter rotor inslide, looks to be s length. Wondering if I can replace the broken rotor with one of the l can rotors, that also has a 5mm shaft.

Now I do realized that all of the rotor assemblies are the same, only the windings change to alter the kv in the various winds in a certain can length.

Wondering what the l length rotor would do to the kv rating of the c50 maxx? I can only imagine that it would be lower, due to the increased weight of the rotor. However it would have more magnetic strength than the shorter magnet on the original shaft.

So any info would be very helpful. I can always try it out and see, but it would be nice to have some info. Not too fond of blind testing!

I also have a few C50s and I changed the rotor of my C50-Maxx to a 5mm shaft from another C50. It's working good. I'll take some pictures tomorrow if you need them.

Thanks for the info lutach. Do you think the kv changed when you swapped out the rotor shaft? I have a spare 13l c50 and really like how the c50 maxx wind does in the buggy, just not liking the broken shaft!

Does hacker repair motors? I guess I could request a 5mm shaft to be put in the motor, or maybe do it myself? I guess that the magnet is glued to the shaft pretty well, so that may be out of the question. I could weld another end back on and have it turned to 5mm.

The rotors from Hacker are $50 each. I bought 2 C50-Maxx from Ebay and both were a great deal with the broken shaft. I tried it with 4S and . Use the C50-13L with 22.2 volts and you will be happy. My buggy had the same motor and I was doing 50+MPH with no problem at all.

That is a great price on the rotors, did you get them from hacker directly? I see that their site is under construction at the moment.

Also did the kv change with the different rotor? I guess that I could contact them about repairing the shaft? Not much point if the shafts are so cheap. Wonder if I can get it with a 5mm shaft?

I have a c50 14l in my new emaxx on 5s and it is killer, plenty of power!

And I have read that the b50 motors have different magnets than the c50 motors. The c50 appears to be better, as it has segmented magnets, like a lehner.

You can contact them directly and just ask them for the rotor for a C50-13L and they will send you a the rotor with 5mm shaft. I couldn't give you any info on Kv change, because I didn't use the C50-Maxx due to the broken shaft. All I can tell you is that the motor on 4S lipos is awesome. Hacker uses thin disc magnet and they wrap them with Kevlar. I have never opened on of my B50, but the C50 I think is a higher quality motor.

Hey Linc,

Outrunner man here. LOL

I do know in the 12 pole outrunners, increasing the magnet strength lowers the kv. Such as going from a regular magnet to a Neo mag set and use the same wind.

No worries though. It is a trade off. The stronger magnets produce lower kv, but WILL make alot more torque.

Swap it out, try it, and if it's slower than you like, gear it up some to compensate.

I will stick the 13l rotor that I have here in the c50 maxx can and see what it does. I can gear it up if I need to. I hope it is similar, cause the setup was working great before the breakage.

Still need to fill the center diff with something other than grease! I have some traxxas 50k fluid so I will try that out.

Lutach, would you have a contact number for hacker, I cannot seem to get their site to load now. Thanks

Sike, thanks for the info, I will give the new setup a try and see how it does. Also looks like I have everything here for the hv tmaxx so that may be finished by the end of the week!

Many thanks for this info

You are the man when it comes to mfg info Lutach! I guess that is because you must own every type of brushless motor there is!

Just trying to help. I still can't figure out the manufacturer for the gate driver for this controller: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...&postcount=118. The funny thing is that I sell electronic components .
