I blew out a rear diff in my tekno revo, but it was used. I did not damage the gears, but the inner bearing on the pinion lost its balls somehow (sounds really bad, huh!). The gears were fine, but locked up when the balls got in the mesh. The truck was well used when I got it, and the guy had raced it with a big block so I figured that it was time.

I have another revo with a center 1/8 diff and slipper and it uses stock diffs. I have beat it good and so did metalman (used to be his). He never had any issues with the stock diffs and neither have I.

I have blown out old emaxx diffs, but they look weaker than the revo diffs. I have not blown out a 3.3 case tmaxx diff yet. I do not bash as hard as other people though... and my trucks are near stock weight.

My Revo had a 3.3 in it, then a picco .26, and now a Feigao 9xl on 4s all on the same stock diffs and they seem to be holding up fine. I don't think upgraded diffs are REALLY necessary unless you're running a 1521 through a 6s lipo or similar powerplant.
