My Feigao 7XL siezed -
04.21.2008, 12:21 AM
Hey everyone, today after about 6 months in the box i took out my 7xl motor because i finally found a old buggy i had that i figured id put it on. Well even before i bolted on to the car i turned on my esc and put all the settings on low seeing as the buggy only weighs 5lbs, and made sure that the motor still ran. well it did until about 10 seconds in, it decided to go clunk and stop. I dont know what is wrong with it, i have not taken it apart yet i just wanted to ask here to see if it was something simple. The esc still works on my other electric motors but the feigao still wont move, all i hear when i touch the throttle is a little click then nothing. Has anyone had this problem before, can anyone help me, cuz i want to get my bug running asap. I've had the motor less then a year and ran it less then 1 hour total then it just sat in its box. Oh yeah i forgot to mention i bought it here, just in-case anyone is curious.

Any chance of a pic? The magnet may have come off the shaft. What is your setup?

like you want pics of the inside? im worried that that would like void something, but the outside nothing has changed or bulged,, the bearings didnt break. I have a MM with all settings on low, and a 4s maxamps lipo.

Ok, is it the finned can or the smooth can motor? If the bearings look ok, you most likely had a megnet failure, not uncommon.

At a guess I would say it has thrown a magnet. I don't know if running these motors with 0 load would be a good idea. Someone with a little more knowledge may know if this is correct or not but I would of thought with no load these motors would spin too fast possibly causing damage to the rotor.
Savage: FLM Conversion, 6s, MMM, CC 1520.
Mini-T Pro: Micro Pro 6800kv, Lipo, HS-81mg, Dirt Hawgs
M18MT: Quark 33A, Y22S 6000kv, FP 2s Lipo
LRP S8-BX: RC-M Conversion, Tekin RX8 B1600KV, 6S.

Tim, that is exactly what happens. I am not sure how to get into the finned version. Send Mike an email and see what he says.

does it spin free when it's not connected?... just unscrew the back and check it out... the finned versions are pretty easy to work with.. maybe the front of the motor can popped out a bit.. I would just take it apart and see... my 7xl finned version popped both back and front...

i tried spinning it and it it completely stuck, so i took it apart and the center/ second magnet it completely shattered, oh yeah i was running the pinion but i agree not much load, but i dont understand how 1/4 throttle can even cause a magnet to shatter, i just wanted to make sure that it still moved at all.

With out load the motor can spin up very quickly, even with low throttle input. That sucker is toast, time for a new one...

thats exactly what i was thinking, but as some of you may remember i used it in my home made e-revo and i used it less then an hour total so im freakin pissed, that it already shattered. $90 down the drain. isnt there any type of like warranty or something on this? Im just curious to see how many other people this has happened to so quickly.

I've driven a 7XL running in a Revo on 4S Maxamps & a MM ESC, no probs at all & is extremely fast.
I'm trying the 6XL in my BLST.
