High speed buggy project...... - 04.23.2008, 11:39 AM

Well those that PM'ed me here is the project I am working on. Thanks to guys like Aqwut, Lutach, BrianG and others I have gotten ideas off of some of their builds. I bought a XLB a few weeks back and decided to go full tilt on it.....

Shooting for 100mph on it.....

The setup will consist of:

2 X Turnigy HV's
2 X 1527's
4 X 6S lipo's

I will keep this post up to date as I start to try to fit all this crap under the buggy body....lol

Still haven't figured out how to mount both 1527's on the single spur...but I will come up with something.....I think

Oh for those asking what BEC I was using on the MMT and using on this project......here it is.

One of the guys posted this a while back....not sure if it was Aqwut or Lutach, but I decided to try it. This sucker rocks!! Will take up to 14S input, where my CC BEC would only take a max of 6S.....boooo...hehe

Yeah, fitment is gonna be a real PITA!! That's a LOT of equipment to stuff under that shallow body. It should be interesting to see how you're gonna tackle this...

Yeah...I am wondering if I can even fit all that. The chassis on this thing though is VERY big. Its a 1/7th buggy so its not small by any means. It has a 16.5" wheelbase so its not small.

Yup that is where I saw it. Glad I bought this thing.... I have tried several other BEC's and they don't perform like the specs say. Also I was getting alot of noise from some of the other BEC's.

I was thinking height. With a large scale, you could maybe put battery trays on both sides (on the dirt guards), and then maybe make something similar to the original emaxx motor mount so the motors sit up over the cells, but out to the sides a little. You'd probably have room up front on one side for the receiver, BEC, and the dual ESCs.

That is gonna be one HEAVY vehicle!
12s lipos are gonna be around 3-4lbs each.
Motors are around 1.4lbs each.
ESCs, BEC, receiver area probably close to 1/4-1/2 lb altogether.

So, you're looking at around 11-13lbs of just equipment at the least, not to mention the weight of the vehicle itself (around 10lbs?).

Yeah weight is going to become an issue for sure. 24S worth of Lipo's is not light weight by any means. I may have to re-think this and possibly just go single 1527 and run 12S with 6S on either side for balancing. That would also allow me to keep the body low.

Interesting project. What kind of power requirement do you think you will need?

I would think that 4 fp 3300 25c 6s lipo packs would do. That would give about 3000 watts to each motor, so about 4 hp per motor.

Given the large amount of space, you sould be able to put a motor on either side of the center diff. Make one big bulkhead that replaces the rear center bulkhead.

How about some body off pics?!

Here is a pic of it with no body on it.

As for Batts. I have 4 X 6S Zippy 5000mah lipos. They are rated 20C/30C

They make a high amp model as well of this BEC. But I don't think its needed unless you run alot of digital servos.

However, that one is not rated as high voltage. It would be expensive, but you should be able to parallel two of the HV ones. You won't get exactly double the current, but at least 75% more, so around 6A.
