Neu motor for 1/10 4wd buggy? -
05.07.2008, 11:12 PM
Thinking of building a HB Cyclone D4. Maybe an xray if they ever come out with one (there is speculation on xrays forums that we may see one in '08 or '09).
The Neu 1506 might be a little bit to wide in diameter. You guys think a 11xx series would be able to power a 1/10 buggy - they are pretty light so it should be possible.
Would have to run saddle packs - probably two smaller 4S lipos run in parallel for efficiency over big amps with MM.
The 11xx also has a 3.2" shaft perfect for 1/10 EP gearing. Was thining a 1110 or a 1112, not sure if 1115 would be too much motor, probably in the ~1600-1800 kv range.
Anyone have any suggestions or other motor recommendations? (aside from the Novaks - I've had them and I prefer something I can run off a MM)

I probably wouldn't bother with a Neu in that application. However, a Medusa 36-50-4800 would probably work well. As for the saddle Lipos, check out the sizes and see if the Trakpower 3200 or 4800 packs would fit:

I love my medusa 4800! It needs some serious gearing up though (running close to 8.5:1 in a Rustler on street tires at the moment).

I been thing of a neu 11xx in 1/10 for a while, the main problem is that the motor screw holes are different size and spacing. Its a 1/8 inch shaft though, so all you need is an adapter. I figure anything from a 3500 to a 5000kv, would be right for the buggy on 2s. The 1107's look promising, I got one in a Mini Quake (1107/2y (3400kv)) and its waaaaaay too much. I been thinking of putting it in my T4 with the MM and gearing it for about 40 on 2s. I been meaning to ask if Mike could do a Motor plate adapter for a 370-400 sized motor to 1/10 application
Work because i gotta, play because i wanna
People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

The only issue is that the 1115 has 2.5mm screws unless they changed it. I have had a hard time finding countersunk 2.5mm screws locally.
I think it should work though. I popped an 1109 5000kv into a 4wd tamiya Wild Ceptor and it did pretty well with 2.2 tires and locked diffs. Motor got up to about 180f on 3s lipo, but I was offroading it and the motor was too small IMO.

JRH, I think the motor you used might be too hot. If you used a lower kv, I think it should work great. I got an 1109 in my Mini Quake and i can't get it hot, no matter how i gear it. Thats why i think its a good possibility for 1/10 app. My Motor is a 1107/2y (3400kv), I plan to get a adapter soon and try it with a Quark 80 esc(Only one i got set up for 3.5mm plugs right now)

Hehehehehe, Try it with a 7700. I got one in my sbv2pro and you almost have to track it by the sonic boom, its so fast you lose it on the straight
