Gotta new toy!!! - 05.12.2008, 01:34 AM

With the rising gas prices and now I'm going to have to start commuting between my two stores, I decided to trade in my 06 Charger for a 08 SS HHR. It's pretty sporty and to go from 13mpg to 26mpg is nice on the pocket book.

The wife thought I was crazy but I'm also saving $110 a month in a car payment also. Anyone else thought of trading in because of the gas thing?

It's brand new, had only 10 miles on it. The SS just came out a few months ago. It's a turbocharged 4 banger, 260hp. I needed the ability to haul 6 cases of paper and two kids. I could do it in the Charger but it was getting old. So this fit the bill.

The saleman thought I was crazy too trading in a Hemi Charger Road & Track Edition for this. I told him the SS would keep up, if he wanted to try. I had to go back today to get my personalized plates on the Charger and he wanted to test my theory. I bought it at 10pm so they didn't even test out the Charger. They just wanted to get me outta there and gave me what I wanted.

SS HHR - 260hp, turbo, weight 3300lbs.
Charger - 335hp V8, weight 4400lbs. with the 22's

1100lbs. difference. I kept up with him till I hit 90 then let him go, being new I didn't wanna push it. It's quite peppy, reminds me of my Focus SVT.

Actually with the rear seats up I can fit my LST2, Muggy and toolbox with room to spare and storage underneath.

Love the new SS. Same engine that is in the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn SKY. 260hp out of only 2.0 liters! 0-60 times are almost identical between that Charger and your SS. Charger's legs are a little longer though (as you found out.)
Congrats!

Saw one of those the other day and told my wife that that thing would beat her dads
Saleen (older one) in a drag race. She couldn't believe it.

I'm assuming you mean the Saleen S281 . . . not the S7

I think Foose did one of these SS's for SEMA.

And no, I havent thought of getting out of my truck. I have tried to convince the wife that her Land Rover is on the auction block though. Those things are crazy expensive to own. Very nice rig, but they will nickle and dime you to death.

Losi 8T 1.0, Savage Flux - XL style, LST XXL, Muggy, 3.3 E-Revo Conversion and sitting outside 425hp, 831 Tq Dodge Ram Turbo Diesel. It SMOKES

Nice mini van! No seriously, it is. I've been considering ditching the e30 bimmer for a base model one. I can't have a turbo car that prefers premium, I will drive it like a turbo car and it will need 93. The old bimmer gets 32 mpg on the highway but requires premium gas. Enjoy it!

Totally off topic . . . but I'm a BMW fan So, what e30 model and year is it? Have you done any mods to it? I love the old e30s. Was recently thinking of getting a e46 330 but I need to wait a little. Besides, my Legend GS is a great car.

'87 325. no mods, it is a daily driver, good on gas, easy to fix, drives nice. is not in great shape. I bought it for $1000. I have more sunk into the Revo than the car. lol
