odd heat problems with the LS10 - 05.25.2008, 11:00 PM

well today i was running at the track after i finished a little rebuild on it and it was completely the same setup as before when i could run 45 minutes and not even have any temps above 115 the only thing different from the last trip was i added half inch taller tires (badlands) but i dropped from a 15 to a 13 pinion to compensate for this. plus today it was 85 degrees instead of 70 degrees i also turned the punch control up to 70% from 30% (trying to make it more driveable)

today i only ran 25 minutes not very hard and i got an odd plusing like it would begin to jump forward and then kinda shut down when i mashed on the gas hard as if i was hitting the lvc since my steering would still work all due to the bec, i pulled it off the track and pull the body off, and the mm was pushing 175 and the motor was 180 also ??????????? no funny smells but i called it quits i got back home and threw the battery ont he charger to fins it was still showing 3.68v per cell and didnt have any lower than the other it was warm when i pulled it off the track at only 102 degrees

whats up? the drivetrain is free, no binding and nothing different i have never seen high temps before...........and yes the gear mesh is right and no shorts everything, could my motor be about to take a dump on me or did something maybe come unsolder or broke on the board in the mm???? this thing take some HARD licks, idunno if thats possible to what , anyone have anyideas?

Something may have gone in the motor, check it out. Also, have you gotten the Maxx RX box yet?

nah havent gotten it yet but ill keep an eye out this week, i have about 5 packages coming this week total. i think the 9L in the truck has roughly 13-15 hours on it? is that very much for a brushless motor? i figured it might last me a year or so but if all im gonna get is 15 hours or so before they go i might need to look into a better motor.

I'd say you need to gear down more. It does sound like you are hitting the lvc. what size tire did you go from and too?

You must be drawing alot more power now to have bothe the esc and motor temps go up like that. Check for binding in the drivetrain. Are the badlands alot heavier tires than what you were runnning beofre? Is the top speed the same as before?

If you cant find the cause, set it back to your old setup and test it for high temps. if its good again. Start making the changes you made last time, except one at a time and test in between if possible so you can try and zero in on the cause.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

ok, its actaully about the same (maybe hair slower) with the 13t and 5 inch tall badlands, they weigh the same as the 4.5 inch stock tires which i use a 15t pinion on both are in the high 30s for speed. there is ZERO binding in the drivetrain, would having the punch control set on 70% instead of my usual 30% that is really the only thing i have not ran before, also the first time i ran the badlands i used both the 15 and the 13 pinion and didnt have heat problems with either?????? it was simply to fast for the track with the 15. another note is i always run a 9.2 volt cutoff just cause ive read you never can trust these maxamps cells. i will try putting it back at 30% punch and bash it tomorrow (this is a setup i have ran before with no problems) if the temps remain ill pull the 9l apart, i guess i could have a seized bearing maybe or sumthin ........

I would try putting the punch control back to where you had it and trying it again.

i kinda hope thats what it is but then agian it did make a HUGE difference as far as driveability on the track.
