Am I the only one to try to fix a cracked body?

Well, I cracked one of my Revo bodies a little while back, so I stopped using it for a bit and just left it on the shelf. Which is why you see the stock body in the Fiesta Island bash video I made. Anyway, this afternoon I attempted to "fix" it. All I did was hold the cracked part together, and put CA on the crack. I waited for it to dry for a couple minutes and then put a strip of duct tape on the inside over the CA glue/crack. Then I went to the outside of the body and added some CA glue there as well. I have no idea how long it will last, or even if it will hold while putting the body on the truck. But I guess why not try, right? I'll let you know how long it holds...

Anyone else try to repair a damaged body? Did it work?

I've repaired a few of mine also (wheelies are a killer on bodies).

The only thing I did different was to use a donor body to cut a splice out of - then I glued that to the inside of the cracked body using super glue.

Bodies get to be too expensive to replace all the time.

I tried that donor plastic method and it didn't work very well. I even stripped the paint first. I've also tried fiberglass (a little better, but still didn't last a long time). I even tried "plastic welding" to refuse the pieces back together (even using a piece of donor lexan as filler)... let me say it wasn't pretty!

My paintjobs are really crappy as it is, so I don't think I'll paint the next body I get. I just can't justify spending so much time on something that lasts so little.

Too bad there wasn't an option to buy bodies that are made from colored lexan. Then, just add window stickers. Good for racing or bashing, and leave the really pretty ones for the shelf and forum pictures.

one time I cracked a revo body and I glued it together using popsicle sticks. It worked good for a while but the glue ened up busting after awhile.

drill a small hole on either side of the crack .. and use a zip tie to stitch together , repeat process all the way along the crack .. this will buy your body so time

Well, I could go the obvious route and think that maybe you have a sudden phobia of fans....could've gotten a little pinkie bruise? But I'm really guessing that it may have something to do with the recent rash of troubles with an ESC that has a built in fan?????

Wow, you really don't know? Well, many people here know I do not like fans. IMO, they are just "band-aids" for an improperly set up system. If the ESC, motor, and battery combination is chosen properly, everything will run fine. It's when things are pushed do they tend to heat up. And fans just adds something else to go wrong. IF a fan is desired, it should only be used in systems that run fine without them, but just to add a bit more cooling. None of my systems use fans (even my two Quarks, which are known for running hot) and they run fine with temps ~30-40*F above ambient with peaks no higher than 140*F.

Shoe goo and fiberglass drywall tape works very well. Cut a few strips of the tape and glue them down from the inside in a cross hatch pattern. I'll sometimes use masking tape on the outside to keep the cracked pieces together while I goop it back together. This is very strong and will keep you running. I've even glued two whole halves of a shell back together in this fashion.

Second the shoe glue and reinforce with mesh on the inside. Haven't used the drywall fiberglass mesh due to having two rolls of the black roof patch material around. Works good to reinforece the body post holes with this stuff also.

Just tried riceman's method, and so far it is holding great. I haven't run the truck yet, but just from flexing the body, I can tell that it should help up good. Thanks a lot for the tip!

+1 for SheoGoo and drywall tape! Hands down the best method.
Use it on weak spots to reinforce the body, before you use it, and your nice bodies will last for a long time.

Wow you people go to a lot of effort repairing bodies. I just wipe any dirt from around the crack and clean it well (metho does the trick) then give it some cloth (gaffa?) tape front and back. Usually lasts for quite a while, the tape starts to wear after a while and I just replace it.

then again I am a bit of form over function, I've never actually bought a body, all stockers and recycled bodies...maybe if I had some fancy proline body I might go to more effort to repair my cracks a little more 'invisibley'

Yeah, I've noticed that my "favorite" body has also become my worst body. I actually use Erector parts to hold the cracks together. I've also used duct tape, but it doesn't work very well. Here's a picture of what used to be my favorite body: (It sure was beautiful in its day! Metallic Blue and a dark purple.)
