Ammo motors for dual brushless set up? -
06.13.2008, 08:58 PM
I've decided I want to utilize my dual motor mount E-maxx transmission in my Revo while still use my VXL controller.
So the plan is to get another VXL and then get two motors to go along.
I want to get two motors for under $140. I have it pretty much narrowed down to:
2 Velineons
2 Ammo 36-56-2600
Feiago L motors might be a little to costy with the heatsink clamps added into the price. These are going to run on 3s. The Ammo motors would be cheaper, as they are $35 a pop at Tower. Seems too cheap. Would they hold together? It looks as though they don't have any screws holding them together.
Dual Velineons would be fast geared 19/62. Wanted to know if I would be able to get comparable speeds if I geared up the larger ammo motors.

I believe the Ammos do have screws in the endbells. But they also have holes in them like Neus.

Go with the ammo motors, although at 2600 kv, motor speed may be a bit low. Temps will most likely be good with the slower spinning motors, and using 2 should be ok with higher gearing.

had a single ammo in my e savage. in warm/hot temps, the motor got pretty hot (too hot imo) but never thermalled or showed any signs of giving up... the 2 year warrenty is always good, and they dont have screws, just pop off/on, a bit of glue or 2x clamping heatsinks work perfectly, but i didnt bother, was very tight!
same or better than the feigaos aparently.

Hey guys, I just fried my mamba 5700 motor in my stampede, and thought I'd look at the ammo motors because of the price. Do you think the 36-50-3300 is enough motor for the stampede on 3s?

Which ammo motor and was it a nitro conversion or the light electric one? Was it a viable power plant with a good top speed?

hi there. it was the electric one with a few upgrades... it ran hot on stock gearing, but was pretty darn quick. (didnt help that i had the pinoi drilled myself, and wasnt completely square, and the batteries i was using were useless (cheap 12nimh). on good lipo and mamba max, this thing would have run a whole lot cooler, but i cant really say wether its a viable single option. its the same as a feigao 9L performance wise for 1/2 the price and 2 year warrenty. hope this helps.

Because of the amp capability with the velineon ESCs, why not just run the motors in parallel (I guess) and just run them off of 1 ESC because the total anp draw of both the motors in parallel is only 110a continuous and 180a burst-- still under the 200a capability of the velineon. Just a thought...

Thats assuming the 200amp sepc of the VXL is true or accurate, wouldnt like to test it myself really.
For your pede, I reckon the 36-50-3300 would be fine on 3s, slower than your 5700 mamba but then again you should be able to gear up more with the ammo.

I'd probably gear it a bit lower actually. It's just uncontrollably fast, and I just picked up a wheelie bar. That's a lifesaver. if you've ever heard the back edge of a body scraping on asphalt, a wheelie bar is a must for all brushless trucks.

First off brushless motors cannot be run in parallel off one esc, only BRUSHED can be used this way.
Go w/ another velineon, it is a proven setup that will net you about 50mph with a sick amount of torque on a pair of 3s lipo's. You will need a revo Y-harness for the radio and you will need to make a parallel connection to the pair of esc's and batteries so both esc's LVC kicks at the same time.

Yes they can - You can sync the motors up so they can run of same esc - Do some searches on rcm it has been done before Artur i think posted the instructions.
The ESC needs to be capable of supporting all of the amp draw.

Has anyone drawn a diagram of the wiring needed?

While it's possible, it's definitely not the best option for a reliable setup at all. Not worth it IMO.

Single motor/single esc is the best bet. Sell the vxl, buy a MM, and a ccbec. The get an 8xl and run it off 4s. It will be a lighter setup ,and have plenty of power. I have a pair of axeo motors that I plan on running on a quark 125b on 5s. Just have not got around to doing it yet...
