setting up a slash with 3s and 9l - 06.22.2008, 02:17 PM

well after runign agianist 4 slashes in the electric class last night, they just look too damn cool, so ive got one coming and im gonna retire the ls10 for awhile because i have ruined my last set off drive cups and nobody has any and hotbodies doesnt know when they will be shipping more out ... so until i can get parts the slash will be running:

-Mamba Max w/ CC bec
-9L
-maxamps 3s 5000
-mike motor clamp/heatsink

in the r/c calculations page im coming up with a 70t 32p spur and a 20t 32p (5mm bore) pinion, will this gearing fit on the tranny or what do i need, some one let me know. That would be gearing it for 40mph since i think anything over this is just gonna be a waist plus the MM and 9L wont even break a sweat. Or what do yall think i should gear it at?

what else do i need for the slash? i figure ill have to do some dremel work to let the heatsink/clamp fit but thats no big deal. ive alreay got better springs since after seeing first hand they are spung too soft. The slashes do jump a bit better than a regular 1/10th due to the longer wheel base.

how well does the vxl style tranny hold up to a system like im gonna be putting in the slash?

haha im gonna be racing and bashing with it alot but i think the huge rear bumper will keep the wheelies from coming too far over.

azjc -

i deleted the other thread it somehow double posted, but to answer your question yea its a stampede with better steering setup, much bigger "roomier" chassis, and all the little vxl hardware upgrades (bearings, hexheads, turnbuckles, etc..) , and of course the obvious things like the nerfs, bumpers, tires, and body. They are pretty SLOW stock on 6cell but its a huge nitro specifis track we race on too. but stock they ran wide open all the time.

best thing about it is that it uses the same offset wheels front and rear big plus right there.

I was doing speed runs with the rustler (same transmission) geared 19/54 with a Velineon. You should probably go with a Jato 32p spur (which will fit fine on your slash slipper clutch). Then go with a 17-19 tooth 5mm 32p pinion depending on whether you want 42 or 46 mph.

I am pretty interested in this too, as I have a 9l, and an extra mm laying around. I just sold a slash I had the velineon stuff in, running on 3s. It was a blast to play with, my new favorite, a buddy made me an offer I couldn't refuse so I sold it and bought another new one. I was planning on just going with the vxl stuff again, because I didn't want to buy 48p 5mm pinions, not really nowing where to start, and I thought it was kind of neat having a whole traxxas rig. I hadn't thought about swapping the spur over to 32p. Even with the big bumper, you can still filip it on its back from a pretty decent roll. The wheels actually are different offset, I don't think near as much as a stampede but they are a bit different. Def a neat truck

I run Mod 1 gearing in my VXL ruster using a Revo 40 tooth spur and a RCM 16 tooth pinion I prefer it over the 32 pitch

Mod1 or 32p work fine. You may not be able to get the cover back on with either, but it does not matter with the larger gear teeth. I run a 58t spur with an 18t pinion in one pede and it does fine. Jota or revo spurs work fine, and you can mod mgt spurs to work too (gives you more choices in mod1)

I do want the gear cover to go back on, so whats the max size 32p spur i could fit and then ill get the right pinion to match?

i looked really close at the wheels and could have swore they were the same, oh well i was thinking maybe i could toss my set of front offset badlands on it for bashing, (at the track they require you to run stock tires, since there is gonna be a spec class for them) whats the difference? i know it cant be that much maybe 1/4 inch each side?

would a 54 tooth jato spur and 15t pinion fit under the gear cover? better question is there enough adjustment to make these mesh correctly?

I don't know what the difference is either, it can't be much. I thought they were the same as well, but 2 different part numbers. Somone on the traxxas board put some different wheels on it, and they commented on the difference.

I think the spur would be too big, but if a tiny rock would get caught in the gear it would work its way out

i have a 13 tooth mod1 so i could run that with a 40 tooth revo spur but the top speed is showing 46mph with a 7% loss would this be too fast or more improtant uncontrolable on the track? a 12tooth would put me at 43mph ......what would be better?

I use my setup only in large parking lots I have never used it in an off road application, I am guessing it would be out of control...but maybe with the right tires ......
