I was finishing up on my Hyper ST conversion and I was mounting the batt tray I made. I was using a balance to figure out the weight balance, and was suprized just how forward I had to push the batt to make F and R reasonably balanced. basically I could shove the batt all the way to the str rack and the R was still 100g heavier.

I didn't like it that far forward, so I moved it back some, but def biased to the F. Looking at my Revo, it was def R heavy as well.

How much does it really matter.Is 50/50 balance even optimal, or should 40/60 be better. Too much weight on F may make it slow to turn. What do others do, and have you noticed a big effect?

I actually don't worry too much about weight front to rear as long as its reasonable. Weight balance left to right is much more important in my opinion. I say this because you can't correct the car in the air if its leaning to one side, but you can if the nose is going to far up or down by giving gas or brake. On my Revo I have about 60-40 weight distribution (rear-front). And I just slightly tough the brakes on a jump and it lands perfect every time. On my CRT.5 however, it is a little nose heavy, so off I a jump I just hit the throttle a little and it lands perfect.

Ideally you want the left and right side to be about 100 / 150 grams apart in weight. side to side is more important that front and back as Josh stated above..

I noticed a lot of the top truggies have moved the CG forward by strenching the chassis and/or moving the engines more towards the front. I noticed this on my Kyosho ST-RR and it is one sweet handling truggy. I think the Losi 8T also has moved the weight forward. This impacts weight transfer and front/rear bite. But to answer your question I don't know what the exact percentage would be, I would assume you wouldn't want to bias it one way or the other by much, maybe a little foreward bias to aid in weight transfer under acceleration and cornering grip when off the throttle. Just my two cents.

Hmm.. yeah, I think I have the L/R pretty good, which is fortunate as there is really not a whole lot of options to balance the two as the general layout is pretty much dictated as motor one side/ batt and esc on other. The controlling factor is the weight/size of the batt, and I'm trying to minimize that as much as reasonable. You can move around bec and rx around, but there is not much else.

I was looking at some nitros too for balance ideas, but I was also reading some reviews for my truggy. A number of reviews said it tended to be slightly nose heavy, so I was a bit shocked to see that the rear is quite a bit heavier on the roller, and all the heaviest nitro stuff would go towards the rear as well. Makes sense tho as they are basically the same other than the rear shock tower and shocks are larger, as well as having the big wing. My worry was moving the batt fwd to even out the weight I would make nose diving worse.

I know I can raise the lift on the rear wing and use throttle to bring the F up, but I don't want to have to get too tricky to fly it right. Guess I'll find out once I drive it, I just don't want to have too make a ton of holes in the chassis re-bolting down my batt tray trying to get the thing balanced right.

My even point with the battery is about the spur gear - It flies pretty well...

Cool, I was just looking at your thread and pics. It looks like I mounted my tray about 5-10mm forward than yours. I used the same 4mm hole for the F strap, and I used the F motor mount slot for another 4mm screw.

I also bought a 46T spur gear. It came today and I finally finished it and got to drive it. I'm very happy w/ it. No idea on jumping yet, but overall feel is good. The way I designed my batt tray left the 52T spur touching the tray. That was fine as I had planned to ditch it.

Now if the MMM gets out I can take out the BEC and wires and the fans wires and really clean in up. Looks good now, but the extra wires are a hassle.

Right now I have it on 4S and my old 8XL. Lots of power w/o being overkill. My 1515 2.5D came today as well, but I haven't installed it. Not sure how great it would be on 4S, and I only have 1 set of 5mm bullets so I don't want to remove the ones from the XL.
