esc fried motor? - 07.29.2008, 01:47 AM

i posted a day or so ago that i smashed two of the three caps on my MM. the MM then proceded to fry my ccbec and caused a ton of cogging. i checked the temp of my 9xl and it read 204 is it possible that the esc fried the motor? or could the high temp have been temporary and will be back to normal (160) with a new MM? this is in a savage on 4s

Sorry to hear that. Electronics are pretty straight forward for the most part. Once you have crossed the upper temperature threashold, you can pretty much count on the fact that the gear will fail. Even if you do get it running again it probably will not last for very long. You may even cause damage to the new ESC, or other components in the process. Once you over temp any electronic compnent it is degregated to some degree and will never operate at full capacity again.

It's a hard lesson but don't run with damged equipment. Get the ESC fixed then try it again.

Well the only question is if you demagnetized the motor - How easy does it turn over. You could always pop the rotor out and check...

it turns over pretty easily, it seems to spin normally, how would i go about checking on a 9xl, would i be able to get it back together easily?

ok so i was able to pop off the rear end cap and pulled the motor apart. it seems as if the front half of the magnet is magnetized but the rear half is not, is this possible? it seems to spin more freely than it used to...if i spin it hard with two fingers it keeps going on its own for a good 5 turns

I'll throw in a cap ;)
