Interesting Project Idea... - 08.10.2008, 01:20 AM

I was thinking () that this would make a sweet project. Something worth saving up for, and then, putting the time into anyways.

http://www.military-today.com/apc/stryker.htm

I want to buy two Ofna GTP kits and hack 'em up in order to put both steerable axles up front and the other two axles in back. I'd have a low kV outrunner bolted to each of the four diffs via a CV joint. 8s LiPo sounds like a good starting point, with CC HV45 controllers for each motor, and two Hitec 5955TG servos for the two steerable axles.

I found out recently that the HV110 controllers are capable of motor-braking with cars/trucks, so I'll use the motor brakes with the HV45's. It's an assumption, I know, but a reasonable one. Unless someone out there knows otherwise.

The body will be made from 0.125" polycarbonate and I'll have it bolted directly to the chassis. Color scheme? I was thinking black.

It really is an interesting idea. I am also thinking of making something like this but a similar setup to those battlebots..but it never materialized

Hope to see your result on this....

Sounds interesting.
If you need a better ESC, many of the battlebots guys use Vantec speed controllers:
http://www.vantec.com/rdfr.htm

I'd go for the RDFR47E: "Heavyweights, 3HP Acrobatic Go-Cart"
Worked fine for pushing 325lbs around on metal plate conveyor belt tracks:

It might be overkill, but these things most likely won't fail on you like some of the other "100a +" ESC models have been.

Truckbasher: Right now it's only an idea. I could probably build the entire thing for less than $1500, but that's still a lot of cash. If I find a deal on the two Ofna GTP kits then we will see some progress.

J3110: Those controllers look nice, but they're a bit too pricey for me. They're also more ESC than I'll need. I've been meaning to drop into my highschool and see if they still participated in the Battlebots competitions...
