Baja 5b Conversion "Prep Work" - 08.16.2008, 06:44 PM

Been thinking about this idea from the very start of my save for a 5b. I should be able to finally purchase it this weekend or next week sometime. Ive seen my friends 27cc grizzly run and its a beast for sure. Only problem is that my neighbors hate the extremely loud setup he has. "Xcan pipe with 27cc engine". Im looking to possibly convert my 5b. I have the Sentileon 100a HV ESC set to order whenever I get around to ordering the 5b and I also have my mind set on The white lipo packs from UH that have are 5s 4800mah 25c-35c. I plan on running two in series. That should be enough for that but Im stuck on a motor.

Heres what I had in mind...

Keep in mind that a normal max rpm range for 23cc-28cc 2stroke gas is 10k rpms. The outrunner has 250kv. Take 250kv x 37volt nominal and you get 9250 max rpms. Plus this motor has a 50-70cc 2stroke gas equivalency which should be plenty of power.

So the setup will be...

ESC- Sentileon 100a HV
Battery- Two 4800mah 25-35c 5s Lipo's
Motor- HXT 80-85a 250kv Outrunner

What do you guys think.

I doubt I'll do the conversion because I've still got the matrix to finish but this is just an idea if I get fed up with gas which I doubt I will. Ive ran a 1/5 27cc XTM grizzly and its really a cool experience. Can run up to 45mins on a single tank of gas and you never have to wait to run it. I think Im going to do my Matrix TR FRE instead right now. Converting the 5b isnt a need and converting the Matrix is.

If I can get enough people intersted in this build I may just do it for the hell of it seeing that you guys are interested in it. I am a little more intersted in finishing my Matrix conversion first though.

I'm thinking to build a E-baja to, but I haven't got enough money yet. Some one here on the forum already has a E-Baja, and someone is building one ( With Mike ).

Look here: http://fastestrc.blogspot.com/search/label/baja
He has a NEU Motor, and also on this forum.

Good luck!

takedown i am really interested in a 5b convert. I would do one myself but lack funds. As soon as i get a god chunk of cash though the gas 5b will at least be purchased then i will convert it when another chunk of cash comes along.

Hmmm... When I buy the 5b either on monday/tuesday or wednesday this week Ill see if I can put an order on the motor and the ESC. That way I will not be able to change my mind on this seeing that Ill try to many times. I still have to see what Im gojng to use for a motor mount. Im thinking .50in tempered plexiglass 12x12 sheet off ebay for $20. The main think Im worried about is the burst current draw from the giant outrunner. If I gear it just right hopefully it wont try to draw more than 150a cont otherwise my lipos are screwed... If you guys have any suggestions please let me know.

Ok I think Ive made up my mind on this. I will order the Sentieon 100a HV ESC along with this outrunner... The reason I want this one over the bigger purple one is that its half the cost and has a better quality rating.

Its a little less power but in my opinion on 10s it will be plenty for my likings.

I call it tempered plexiglass because it doesnt shatter as easily as normal plexiglass does meaning it has some flex.

Sleebus- Outrunners in general are more efficient than inrunners.

I've always thought that outrunners aren't as efficient as inrunners, or am I mistaken?
