I converted a Computer power supply for mine. It has been working well. Just started to get to the end of its life now, but I went cheap and only spent 20 bucks on it.

I been reading about those......does it have enough amps to operate a hyperion duo? I think they need 15 or 20 amps.....I have an old atx 350 watt atx

what you think of this one and how hard is it to convert?...all I would need is two female bannana plugs?

Take a look at the sticker on the back. It should say how many amps on the 12V rail. I've found the price/performance ratio is much higher with the computer ones than other ones.

This one for example puts out 26A on the 12v rail.

For your charger anything rated at 550W or more should be sufficient. I'm pretty sure that if it has more than one 12V rail you can run the charger off of all of them and not just one.

no you cant parallel multiple 12V rails on a PSU, you will most like ruin it. Find one that has a higher power rating with a single 12V rail.

What I did to mine:

Cut off all of the connectors
I took it all apart
found the +12V cables and the black ones picked maybe 5 of them and wrapped them around my banana plug on my charger
heatshrink
neatly cut all of the other cables
take the green cable out of the main mobo connector and connect it to one of the black ones.
That acts as the on/off switch, but it also has one on the back.

The wire that is uses for the computer plugs aren't very good and you really need to make sure you attach a lot of them to the banana plugs. I would say 10.

If you want to be able to unplug the charger, just buy some female banana plugs and install them in the side of the case.

Do a Google search for something like "convert computer power supply RC" and you'll find a few nice guides.

Your charger will pull 360 watts right? That means that you want at least 30 amps on the 12v rail. Even then yo may have the voltage drop too much, I would look for one rated for 33-35 amps just to be safe. It also depends on if you are planning on charging both batteries at 180 amps.

Thanks for the clarification on the multiple rails, I thought it might work, but I guess not.

If you don't mind the color, this one looks nice

Or this one for $40 with free shipping

Also, iirc from what I've read (or more correctly, from what BrianG says) most chargers are only about 80% efficient, so to use the full 360W you should be looking at at least a 450W supply - that means nearly 40A on a very stable 12V rail.

Good thing about the hyperion (duo at least) is that you can have up to 28V input, high V low current supplies are much cheaper - maybe even get two PSUs rated to about 19A@12V and run them in series (not sure this will work, but cant think of why it wouldnt). Note that you can not run multiple 12V rails in series, so don't even think about it.

I dont worry about the chargers maximum power ratings but what the packs will need to draw...I have a Hyperion 0610i charger and its rated @ 250 watts but I only need 120 watts to charge a 6s 5000 pack ...something to keep in mind
