50mm MedUsa gearing for Rustler? - 09.01.2008, 04:43 AM

I want to put a 50mm MedUsa motor (4800 KV, 5mm shaft) in my Traxxas Rustler with 32p gearing, but I have no idea how to gear that motor. I want to use a 58T or smaller spur gear but no idea which pinion to use and with the cost of 5mm bore pinions I'd like to get it right or close to right the first time.

If you don't have the motor yet you can get it with an 1/8 inch shaft.

This going to sound strange, but gear it what ever you want. That motor will pull whatever gearing you put on it with a Rustler, and shouldn't get hot.My Hv4.5 in my Pede(roughly same kv) I could gear anything I wanted and it would not go above 125* So how fast do you want to go?I would go with the 1/8 shaft and around 23/83 for bashing.

I have not purchased the motor yet, but I'm hoping to order one from Mike later this week before they go out of stock (MedUsa seems to be kinda slow to get their motors out, I want one before next spring ). Despite already having a selection of 48p 1/8th pinions I'd like to go with the 5mm shaft and Jato spur gears for durability.

I had a Neu 1515 1.5D in my Rustler for a little bit and it pulled 24/38 Revo gearing just fine, but this motor isn't quite as powerful as the Neu. While I was at work today I changed my mind about the 4800 KV and I'll probably go with the 3300 on 3s for now and 4s later. Before posting this I didn't notice BrianG's missing value calculator which helped a lot. I set my desired spur to 58T and it said for 55 MPH I should get a 13T pinion so I think I'll start off with that and go from there. Too bad I am including my 22 and 24T pinions with my E-Revo
