Broken Antenna on Spektrum Tx - 09.01.2008, 09:17 PM

I left my transmitter at the in-laws campsite last night, and just before I went to pick it up this morning, it got knocked off the table and the base of the antenna broke (snapped in half around the ring where the screw is). I think I can superglue the plastic back together, but there is now about 2" of excess wire. Can this just be shoved back up the inside of the antenna, or is there some trick to it - ie., is it wound inside the antenna?

If not, is there a vendor that might carry replacement parts? Im guessing that would have to come directly from Spektrum (or whoever manufactures them).

BTW, we had an awesome time through the week running in the sand on the beach. Made up a short course (complete with berms). We had three stock 3906 Emaxx's, a new E-Revo, my converted Revo, and a brushless 3905 Emaxx. The new E-Revo ran suprizingly well - the handling was incredible. the two brushless trucks had a helluva time keeping in a straight line no matter what tires we tried. Sometimes there is such a thing as too much power! I'm definitley buying a 3.3 chassis for a winter project.

Thanks Arct1k. I'm going to look for a US vendor though (that was in HongKong).

I've had pretty good luck ordering for China, never had any problems. It takes a little bit longer though.

Its a personal preference thing - I prefer to pay a little more and keep my $ on the home front.

Update: I spoke with the folks at Spektrum today, and they dont want customers repairing antennas on their own - he made the statement that they dont sell replacement antennas(?). He thinks the cable would have broken off the pc board inside the transmitter to give that extra length.

Humbug - they just want the warantee money - I'd open it up and have a quick look - It is only 6 or so screws.

I opened mine recently to add connectors to allow me to use a Lipo TX module. Works like a charm...

You'd be down for a couple of weeks if you ship it off - I'd just order up the part and give it a whirl.

Got my one from ebay as well . Being in Australia i'm split between US and buying from Asia , never had a problem with either . Asia being next door though shipping is alot quicker and cheaper .

If i had to keep my money in Australia i would wait months after you guys for new releases and parts support is shocking .
Basic stuff i still support my local HS but probably 75% of my money goes overseas.

I pulled it apart last night and the cord was not seperated from the PC board. I pulled the excess wire back down into the transmitter, and put everything back in place. The wife is SUPPOSED to pick up some superglue for me this morning, so I should have it all fixed tonight.
I really dont know why Spektrum took the stance they did. The cord is not soldered to the board - it looks like a swivel push in connector. Something all of us could easily replace.
