My BL Savage - 11.03.2005, 01:27 AM

Hiya all, I've been watching these forums for awhile and thought I'd sign up!

This is my electric Savage, I got a rolling chassis on ebay for $150, and I had it electric within the hour that it came. For now I have an old Modeltech brushless setup running on 12 cells. Soon I'll be running on an 18 cell brick pack where the engine usually is. Once my budget allows that brick of nimh will be replaced with lipolys!

Here are the pics! (sorry for the blurry-ness, my camera is acting funky)

New motor mount that places motor on top of transmission, allowing me to fit the 18 cell brick pack where the engine/gas tank usually mounts:

Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for the compliments guys, although it's not done yet. I'm going to try to fit a 1/8 scale buggy center diff, so I can have more room for batteries, and it's always a nice thing to have.

JOHNNYMAXXIMA, I know Dabid from another forum, so he was just greeting me in his own way. :L:

Oh, for right now I just have an old modeltech motor in there (similiar performance to a 12L I think). A 9920 is on the way to control this beast, and I'm soon going to order a 7 or 9XL, along with a whole slew of 5mm pinions. This should be running by next weekend, and I'll have a video if nothing goes wrong *crosses fingers*.

Once I decide on the amount of cells I'm going to run (5 or 6s lipoly) I'll decide on the motor. Im leaning to 6s, because more power is always better, but 5s will be easier to manage and I can have more runtime. The 7XL is at its max at 6s, so I may end up getting the 8XL. The thing is, Mike only has 7XL's. :W: My ultimate goal for this Savage is to fit a center diff tranny from a 1/8 scale buggy AND being able to fit packs that are ~140mm in length, allowing me to get two 3s lipoly packs with 8000mah in between the chassis plates, so they are fully enclosed and protected! It will also be more cost efficient to do this, as I can use the lipolies in my other trucks, rather than buying more stuff. Glad you guys like it, but it is far from done to say the least! :D

YOu will get more run time on 6s than 5s. You will also get more run time on 8xl than a 7xl. I can get 25-30 min on gp 3700 18 cells on a 9xl. witha lipo 8000mah with less weight and such looking at an hour of run time. I have not ran a 8xl so can't help there. Mike has some 8 and 9 xl coming. supposed to be in any day now. They are bk wanderer 20 series.

I really want a purple motor! As far as I know, the wanderers are blue, correct? I may just go with the 7XL on 6s lipo, it's pushing it, but it should be fine the way I drive. As for the 6s Lipoly and the 5s lipoly, why would there be a difference of runtime? More power to the motor therefore decreasing the load on the motor? Thanks for the help :)

Dabid, don't worry about being too cheesy. I like cheese. ;)

I ordered a 7XL, along with a few other motors for my other projects last night. If all goes well shipping-wise, this should be semi-finished by next weekend. I'm going to have to wait on the lipolies, but I may be able to fit an Ofna Ultra LX 8th scale diff fairly soon, the only thing that is holding me back is getting some custom driveshafts. I could just see if two rear shafts will work. I'll see once it comes in the mail.

All this talk about the 7xl........what's so dramatically different in the powerband than say a 9L (close the the Lehner 2800xl I have now)? I realize that it's more versitile as far as running more cells (like a 16 cell limit, right?), but what else makes it stand out as a great motor for monsters?
