Will Novak fans hold up to....... - 09.11.2008, 12:04 AM

Will Novak 25mm and 30mm fans hold up to 6.0 volts? I am running 2 30mm fans and a 25mm fan, and I took the voltage up to 6 volts after adding the 2 30mm fans. But I just want to make sure that I am not going to fry these little fans after I paid $15 each for them....

Yes. I run 5V fans on 6V all the time.

$15 each! Yikes. Novaks are overpriced. If you ever need more or to replace them look for the integy ones. Ive had good luck with them and they are less than half the price.

I was running them at 7.2v and they were ok. They are pretty nice and hold up pretty well. I did run one at 11.1v for a small while, but it got pretty hot. I tried 14.8V accidentally one day and thats when it went bye bye. I think 6.0V is safe.

I also noticed they are a little warm in the middle, which they were not warm at all on 5V........ Still think they will be alright? (Sorry for being paranoid, I just don't want $45 worth of fans to get fried.....)

I know that Ben....

What I meant was that before, the fan motor wasn't warm when I ran it on 5v, but now on 6v, the fan motors get warm.

When I ran it at 11.1V I measured about 190 degrees in the center of the fan. I think you will be ok at 6 volts. A 20 percent increase in rpm is not much. I was running them at 7.2v with no issues. If the question is are we shortening their life, then the answer is yes, but I think they will hold up for long enough at 6V.

if its getting to warm for your taste, try putting a fan on it to bring the temps down....

I have 2 Novak 5V 25mm fans that I've run on 8.4 with no less than 30 hours on them, they do get warm in the middle but if the voltage was too much they'd have died long ago.

They sound unholy and move tons of air for their size.
