Battery ideas for Emaxx (3905) - 10.03.2008, 11:17 AM

So I'll be getting a new Emaxx in the next couple of days and I need some additional thoughts on battery options. Of course this thing will be brushless at some point so I know Lipo's are a must
Motor/esc wise I'm going to try wait and go with the the MMM/Neu combo when it is released. I've had great luck with Castle's stuff so I'd like to go that route. If I get impatient I know I can get an MMM and a XL motor.

Here's what I'm looking at doing so far but more input from people with more experience will be a big help. I've never had a truck that uses two batts so I'm trying to get everything straight before I start spending $$$

1st setup: 2x 2s 5100mah Enerland packs in series for 4s
2nd setup: 1x 4s 5100mah or 6000mah PolyRC pack
And the setup I am most curious about and looking at for Max runtime (and I know it will cost an arm and a leg and possibly a kidney)
3rd setup: 2x 4s 6000mah PolyRC packs in parallel for 4s 12000mah (To my understanding that is what wiring in parrallel does, but I'm unsure)

I'm not too worried about spending decent money on this truck because I want it to be my best truck. I've always wanted a maxx and now that I'm getting one, I need to make it awesome

Oh and this is just for bashing; I don't race.

1 - Best
2 - Weight all on one side
3 - too much weight (will result in breaking stuff) - better off with 2 sets of batts for option 1.

I have the enerland HC 30c and 25c - They are very good packs esp for 99 each...

The first setup looks to be the best bet. I would do that over the pair of 4s 6000 packs. Less weight, less heat, and better performance. Plus you can buy 4 of the 2s packs, and just swap packs when you want to play longer.

I run an emaxx and erevo on 2s trakpower packs. I have 4 total so I can run for at least 45mins.

Those enerland hardcase lipos look to be a great deal, and you get the added protection from the hardcase.

Thanks for the replies :) I forgot to mention that speed wise I'm only looking for 35mph and maybe 40mph if I'm feeling speedy. I'm definately eying those hard case packs (I'm paranoid about Lipos). The only reason I was thinking of the 6000mah's wired up in parrallel is for runtime but I also like the idea of the smaller packs and just buying 4 of them. I really would like to get as much runtime as possible.

FYI
I was test fitting some hard case 2s 5000mah in my maxx the other day. The wires coming out of the top of lipo when installed in the maxx were in the way of batt strap as I tried to slide it into the clasp. And they were just a little too tall for the strap to fit correctly but doable with some easy mods. I can't remember what the lipo brand they are tho. sorry.

You could possibly get 35mph out of a pair of 2s LiPos. If you are buying new packs I would run a 2s with a 3s in series. You could reach 38mph or so on stock gearing.

The answer is no. And yes, mine is faster.

Here are the Neu's I have been looking at. I'm trying to find something in the middle so I can run 4s or 6s. I really want to run 2 Apogee 3s Li-Mns but I'm wondering if these motors will over draw the packs...

Here's the one I was looking at:

Or maybe this one, but with this one I think I'm stuck at 6s period:

Possible with 4s or 6s?

Here's a link to the batt: http://pfmdistribution.com/secure/sh...d=231&catid=57

The neu 1515 2D is the best choice for 4-6s lipo use; gear it up a bit on 4s, and down a bit on 6s to maintain good temps and bonkers power/speed.

Apogees are rather old hat- havent been popular for a long time it seems. I'd stick to Enerland or Trakpower hardcased lipos really.

Fair enough. I like the whole idea of the no-fire lipo but they are pain to get a hold of and they are huge packs. On the positive side, I haven't seen a lot of threads about lipo fires or puffed packs in regards to the Enerlands. I'm starting to think I'll stick with 4s just so I dont have to mod the Maxx chassis for velcro straps and I can use the stock retainers.

That is looks great! I think for the moment I'll just run with noraml 4s and later (when I get more money and more parts) and I always move up to 6s :) Thanks for the pics though, those show exactly how I was thinking of doing it.

I run the 2x 2s setup (my lipos aren't as good as the enerland cells you're looking at) with a Neu 1515 1Y and have been really happy with the power and temps. I just switched over from an XL motor and it is night and day the temps between the two motors.

Nice. That is the way I am leaning, I'm still debating on the can but I am pretty sure I'll get a Neu 1515. I can't wait to get all this stuff ordered and put together
