MMM mounting plate - 10.04.2008, 03:32 PM

I started out with some GOO holding my MMM on my chassis, even raced at the bash with it like that. I knew it wasn't ideal, esspecially when I wanted to hose my truck off after getting covered in mud at the bash. I finally made a plate for mounting the MMM in place of an EVX-2. The MMM still needs to be zip tied to the plate but there is at least that option now. I also used some sticky duct gasket from work under the MMM, it provides additional holding power and some impact protection. There are lips front and rear to make sure the MMM doesn't move in a crash or hard landing.

If anyone has any better ideas feel free to add them. Or any way that you have mounted your MMM. I think it'd be nice to have a bunch of different mounts all in one place so people can find them easier and decide what they want to make.

Looks good - I'd add some soft foam underneath to provide some cushioning...

The stuff I used is a gasket material for HVAC duct work, it will provide SOME cushioning. If I'm not happy after I remove it the next time I do have some neoprene gasket material that is very foamy to use. All about using what I can get for free, such as the aluminum I used to make the plate with!

i'm wondering if it will need to be revamped for the new v3 design.

...but it does look pretty sweet

Maybe thats the secret, maybe it was designed for the v3? Maybe there won't be that much of a chnage to the case on v3? Maybe it will be another redesign of the pcb, or maybe they'l just put some legs on the inside of the bottom case to hold the pcb up off the bottom. Either way, it's way better than what I'm using now and my v2 is holding up well, even after racing at the bash and flipping many times. Maybe the secret is that I haven't opened mine up at all, the seal is still holding all the smoke in!

the plate I made to zip tie mine to is working well but I would like something a little more finished than a zip tie. Now the only issue will be programming the MMM. I bought a 6inch extension to plug into my RX and run out of the sealed radio box so I don't have to keep opening it up to make a little adjustment.

That would be nice but not all MMMs will be going in the place of an evx2, therefor not all chassis will have holes that will line up with this. That doesn't mean that you can't make your own holes, but in a 3mm chassis plate how well will the threads hold?

i made a very sturdy one with a traxxas esc mount some piano wire and a large o-ring. The whole truck can be picked up but the speed control, yet i can take it off in a second or two. really easy to use, just takes some time to make.
