i have the robinson racing double disc slipper kit for my emaxx and the brushless power that i am putting through it is warping the plactic spur ring. i am wondering if i should go with the steel version shown here. i think that if i do this it will end my spur issues once and for all.

I'm more concerned that maybe you have something not meshed correctly, or you are setting the slipper too loose. I have that same set up, and my first one, I did the smae thing to it. After I saw how hot it was getting, I cranked it down, and havent really had any issues with heat since (except for when the slipper nut would loosen).

well the real problem that caused the warping was the fact that i have done a pretty whacked out job of locking the tranny into second gear. becasue there was nothing holding the bearing in, it fell out and allowed the shaft that the top gear is on to come loose, thus causing the spur to warp.
Remember, tightening down the slipper will cause the spur to appear warped.
I use the MonsterGt slipper hardware(under $4) which uses a stronger spring. This has eliminated a large bit of the "warpage" in the spur gear. I use the RRP dual slipper on my BL 3906 w/o issues.
I used to use the RR double slipper for the MGT (MOD1) with the steel spur with a homemade sprong. I didn't have any problems using it with the RR hardened steel pinions. It just sounded like a jet turbine spooling up. The sprong kept even pressure on the spur. I now use a Strobe slipper with a plastic spur, and my homemade sprong, keeps straight without wobble. I have another plastic and a metal spur spare, but haven't needed it yet.
There is a tute somewhere about putting a sprong together, it requires a thick rubber grommet/washer thing for fixing taps, a 4mm nut or bearing to put in the middle of washer to slide onto the shaft, and then a stock plate to hold everything down. Don't have any pictures atm, as I am out of the country for another few days, will post pictures when I can.
I made mine from a faucet gasket. It does the same thing the $35 sprong does and it only cost me $2.

i suppose i will go for the steel spur for now, if i have issues i can always go back to plastic. i am interested in trying that sprong/gasket idea. it sounds cheap and effective.
