Motor guide

Well I have been into RC for quite a few years and am finally making the brushless plunge in the car/truck arena and didn't know if there is a brushless motor and/or ESC guide.... as in what motor has what kv rating, price etc. I know most tell you, I'm just interested in knowing a bit more about the feigao (sp?) motors I guess as I am having a hard time finding out there specific kv rating (ie 8xl, 9xl, 7xl) what they have for a rating, etc.

I know Neu's seem to be the best, but why does a mamba max (i know 1/10th scale) have a 5700 and the new 1515/1y is about 2300 and it's faster better, size and workmanship matter, but wouldn't the higer rated kv be faster regardless??

These have probably been answered 20 million times before, but figured I'd ask anyhow....

The 5700 cc motor is a short can size, or about 50mm long, and it is a 2 pole design motor. The neu 1515 1y is longer, and has a 4 pole design, both of those features allow it to make more torque. It does have lower kv rating, but most run it on 4-5lipo. A 5700 motor is only good for 2-3s lipo and does not have enough torue to move a heavier vehicle, that is why it is strictly for 10th scale.

A higher kv just means that it will spin faster with the same voltage. The kv rating does not refer to the power output, toque output or motor size.

There are various places to get motor info, but asking here will be your best bet as most of us have tried a variety of combos and can steer you in the right direction.

Good to know, well I guess one of my first questions is... I'm building an E-revo conversion and am wondering if I'll see a major difference between the Neu 1515/1y and an equivalent medusa motor??? Alos what would the closest equivelent be??

The 70mm medusa would be the equivalent of a 1515 neu. The neu will be a bit better than the medusa, but not worth double the cost. I would also be interested to see what the CC neu style motor will cost, may be another alternative for you. Should be similar in price to the 70mm medusa.

Not sure if they have started selling the 70mm medusas yet, might just be a preorder.

This is about the closest thing I know of to a "motor guide". It'll get you close, but I would ask some questions in here to make your final decision if you arent sure. Good luck with taking the plunge. It will be fun.

FYI: The Medusa's aren't being recommended correctly (especially the 70 and 80mm ones). Looks like I have to adjust the motor parameters a little.

The Medusa 70's and 80's are still preorder. I have a 70mm coming for my revo so I can re-install the Neu on the gmaxx. Jeff(Medusa manager) stated that they should be receiving and shipping them out within the next couple of weeks.
