LOSI 8T 10S Rocket........... - 11.30.2008, 07:09 PM

Hey guys,

Thought I would post some pics of my new project. It is a LOSI 8T with 8B arms to help reduce drag induced by the open wheel design. It has the 8B diffs as well for more top end. I ran 83mph with it on a Mega 22/30/1E on MMM on 5S with 18/38 gearing. New setup is HV85 on 10S with a Neu 1515 2.5D and a little more gearing......all done on the LOSI brushless conversion kit!!

You might set a record with this. I think jzemaxx's record was 81mph with his MMT on 12s. Weve got to see a video of this thing in action.

I was on HPI rubber Phaltlines. Foamy's are not allowed per the rules. The foam's I would have gone WAY faster. Problem is I ran into the limit of the tires....not the truck.

Yes, the Phaltlines are no good for anything above 75-80. I put a set of new ones at 76 and they ripped off in 2 passes!! I heard IMEX is coming out with a MT foam tire similiar to what JACO made for the Tmaxxs a few years ago...

Round 2 - 12.04.2008, 10:23 AM

Good Morning Guys,

DISASTER!!! The motor I purchased was apparently no good!! I had purchased a used motor from someone on another forum and it seems to have had problems. Before I left my house I ran the truck with the wheels off the ground on 5S for about 5 minutes pulling throttle on/off at about 1/8-1/4 throttle. I noticed the motor got to about 170ish with no load! I assumed it may have been because of no load on the motor. Well...............

got to the spot, prepped the truck and was able to run it for about 10 seconds. It took off from where I was fine. I made one pass at about 1/4 throttle to make sure everything sounded ok and it did. Brought it back to line it up again and when it got to the end to turn it back around it wouldn't move!!! When I got it back to the table you could smell the heat coming from the motor and it temped at about 220 at that point! I am going to try to contact Neu and see what they say as well as the guy who sold it to me as it was supposed to be an "almost new" motor.......

OH WELL I think I am going to try a Medusa until I sort this out so this will be out of commision for a little while.............

This was a interesting thread to say the least. Sorry about the motor thing it sux I know....anyway about the above comment by Takedown, what and where are these "records" that we are talking about. I just want to do some research. BTW someone mentioned that foams were not allowed but produced higher speeds? Where do I get foams precut/trimmed true. I myself am after some high speeds as well and I am new to 1/8 scale brushess. Any schooling would be helpful. I will start a thread when I get all my shipments in, but we are working on putting together the order in the "brushless" thread.

We need more pics and vids when you get up and running. Please keep us posted on the progress.

BTW the reason I asked about the record was b/c this is the vid that got me into the 1/8 scale buggies for BL.

And it sure does not look like he's running 10's or 12's. Any info on this set-up would enlighten me.

Just wanted to say hello and wish you more luck on your project.

Have a good one,
Paul

Thanks Paul!! Ok, here goes..........

First, here are some links for "high speed records"

http://fastestrc.blogspot.com/

http://www.rc-isc.com/

Next, about the foams...... Everyone is trying to follow the ROSSA rules setup by the guys in the UK who came with them so everyone can have a standard to go by. For MT you can not use foams because they are not tall enough. I believe the class says the tires need to be at least 5.5 inches, not sure. When you surf the above sites, you will find the correct info.

Lastly, your inspiration is quite an ingenious system!! That buggy is running on 4S. HOWEVER.........................his trick is that he custom mounted a Savage 3 speed tranny to basically create an "overdrive" to the spur gear creating more rpm than if it were to be connected directly to the diff. Thus creating higher rpm and a higher top end. I definately take my hat off to that guy!! He was thinking WAYYYYYY out of the box!!

Good Luck!

What's with the long rear shaft on the 80mm Medusa? Are all of them like that? Do u think it would be long enough to hook a driveshaft to it for direct drive?

I like custom....is there a link to the build. I was thinking those lipos were at least two 3s...I mean those must be 8000 mah 2s if they are because they are quite meaty.

Anyway. I am in search of the right motor and very very very interested in your maiden voyage with the medusa. I have looked at the MMM combo and the neu 1512. Since you have experience with both I am really excited to get your feedback so I can complete my order. I am thinking the lower KV motors will be more versatile for my bashing application. I am thinking that the speed runs will be short lived for me if I go through TOO many parts. But still want to have some fun.

Thankyou very much for the link on the records. I will not be attempting just curious.

Hey can I get pre-cut foams for this baby somewhere??
I say pre cut because I cant true a foam for my life.

Thanks Takedown. I was hoping it would have been a video with the pics as I was planning on running today to test the 10S setup but weather will not allow...
