ESC Requirements - 12.13.2008, 05:57 PM

If I'm running a brushless 1/8 on 5S (track use), what sort of Amp rating would I need for an ESC? I've been looking at some Hacker ones as they are easier to get than the CC and other speedos that are popular in the US.

That will be all relative to your gear ratio. The more speed you want, the higher the amp draw will become. I would suggest to get the biggest thing you can, at least 100amps continuous. Actually, you might be well off with one of lutach's ESCs.

I'm looking for at most 40mph, 5s 5400mAh, using a 1900kV motor, and I have no idea what the current will probably be.It's going in an 808 with 'standard' (16/42) gearing. Apparently using RC-Calculations it will reach ~35000 rpm to get 41mph (no drag), 39mph (with drag).

100amps is a nice 'minimum' based on what I've read for so many years- if the older MMs could do 5s in truggies and buggies, then that would be a starting point; I'd say 120amps to give yourself more headroom.

And so the MMM fits the bill perfectly...

I should have been in advertising and PR, but shelf stacking will do for the time being I guess...
