I know it's been done before but this is my first Gorilla Build so perhaps you guys can point out any failings in my plan.

It's not however the first T/E-Maxx I've built so it's familiar territory and I still have a bunch of unused stuff hanging around from those earlier builds

I originally started with the of idea using an old "Ebay Special" E-Maxx I'd picked up as a base but in the event this project has gotten way out of hand and ended up being assembled from 95% new parts. I think the only parts that were from a donor truck are some gearbox parts, pillow balls and a couple of hinge pins [gulp]

Rather than build up a full Alloy Shelf Queen (a sickness of mine) I planned to make this project useable from the outset. Alloy has been used exclusively where needed only, diff casings, bulkheads, steering linkages and chassis. The suspension parts remain plastic albeit RPM

This way the truck remains light & nimble but hopefully strong and resistant to the bending & breakages all-alloy vehicles invariably suffer.

So, to battle.............

4-spider HB diffs with Nova buckets, SuperMaxx cups and RCM output shafts should take anything I will throw at them

FLM Hybrids

RPM towers, mounts, arms, knuckles, bumpers, braces & skids

Supermaxx shocks

Seems little point in having two motor mounts if I'm using One motor so
Using the old gear casing as a guide, my trusty hacksaw and Dremel soon had the spare metal in the trash can

Mocked together with dummy gearbox in place to enable me to make centre shaft measurements

Nice-looking build. I actually left the other mounting mount for the 2nd motor because it helps in cooling the motor. It acts as a heatsink.

I wondered about that but figured the alloy gear casing might sink heat away too.
I'm wondering whether to use the second motor mount point to hang an ESC mount from actually.........

Why use just one high torque steering servo when two will fit?
Some modification to the steering linkages and servo heights was called for but it works very well.
Pictured here with one alloy crank and one plastic - second alloy crank in post Grrrr

Radio Box installed between steering servos.
Servo wires run inside boot laces and into box through rubber grommets to clean appearance

Alloy Gear Box casing will stop any meshing issues to to case flex

Ofna 17mm Hexes

Revo ProGraphix body with Mirror Chrome highlights

Waiting on Electronics and a selection of pinions as well as a Robinson slipper.
Got to make up a dogbone for the front centre, should be interesting.......

I dont see how he could really- both servos are on steering duty , so a 3rd mini servo would have to be custom mounted to the rx box or something.

On the steering servo front (this is like watching my own build in many respects- even the thread title is a ripoff

), the hs645mgs arent really all that high torque, so you really do have to run a pair of them in a maxx (150in/oz each or there abouts)- they wont turn my jumbomaxx rubber at at standstill, but with more sensible tires I think they'll do just fine.

Funny, for a minute there I thought you were the guy who bought my modified motor mount I made a year or so ago...

At the moment it does indeed have the 2-speed internal setup, I will lock it in 2nd gear.
Eventually I'll pick up a Gorilla single speed setup.....

I think the two 645mg's will be fine for my wheel/tire choice. Agreed they aren't the most powerful but I like them and have good experience with them reliability-wise.

i run one of those 645's on my maxx and with mgt tires it turns them no problem. What kind of tires are you going to be running?

Wabash wheels with 40 series Bowties

Hey Nice build SIR..

My two cents!..

Loss the 3906 trans (I do like the polished look!) and either have MetalMan fab you up mounts for the 3905 or Yes get the FLM trans.. I like the attention to detail.. Very clean.. Now go it dirty! and show us!.. LOL.LOL..

Shaun, if I didn't go to the john a couple of minutes ago. I could of got my post in before you. Seem like you a always get your post in before me and were in the same time zone.

Another Gorilla is always a joyous occasion. Time to celebrate! I like the clean look of the servo box and boot straps. Nice job. Where'd you get you tranny case? It doesn't have a FLM look to it.
