burnt deans?

hi guys,

ive got the MMM combo and 6s lipo with deans all round. when I connect the lipos, there is usually a huge spark (though not every time). I have noticed on the ends of my deans plugs it is no longer gold, but turned sort of silver. everything is pretty much brand new with only about 4 runs on it. are my deans wearing out already?

I heard that the spark was 100% normal. I've had deans turn silver on me. but I don't know if it affects any thing, probably not. IMO deans are a bit over rated. There are just as equally good options out there for cheaper.

if you buy legit deans they are WAY overpriced

try looking on ebay for the chinese brand.

NEVER had any problems with them and they last forever.

Its just the gold plating wearing off.

the gold seems to be rubbing off, which i thought was the conductive layer as gold is the best conductor. if this is rubbing off, surely the resistance is greatly increasing?

You can polish the deans plugs to clean them up and improve connectivity, but I wouldnt worry too much- eventually you will have to replace them as they wear out or get burnt to a cinder buy the sparking (which is normal upon plugging in the batts).

It really doesn't matter as long as they aren't any hotter than the wires.

Once one of a few of my Deans burn out. I'm switching to TRX connectors. :]
I've never really bought a legit Deans.

Get the T connectors.
They're ribbed, and are so much better to get some grip.
Though, they're tight, which is really good. :]
