My outrunner CRT .5 - 02.02.2009, 10:15 PM

I've pretty much finished up my crt .5 now. I am running a Flightpower 30c 3200mah 3s lipo, Turnigy 1100kv 36mm outrunner, and a mamba max esc. It is still a work in progress. I need to get better battery straps, secure the battery tray more, make chassis supports, shrinkwrap the battery, mount the rx in a better place and get an antenna run, get a better wheel/tire setup etc. The ones on the backs in the picture bind when in the front and the ones on the front don't have enough hexes to be run on all four wheels.

I only took it for a short 5 minute test run. At the end I just stopped, the battery wasn't even close to empty. The battery and Mamba max (without the bec disabled) were ice cold. The motor was barely warm. Maybe 85*f. It was pretty dang fast for 3s. Top speed was around 35mph and it could easily wheelie if it got traction. I picked the motor planning to run on 4s lipo, so I know I can get much more out of this setup. I'll probably get bigger tires first then maybe somday get a 4s lipo. I don't even have a suitable charger atm...

A few problems I ran into when building it is that I had a problem drilling through the beefy motor mount. I think I had a dull bit or something, so stupidly I put the bit in my dremel and tried that. It didn't do crap, then I dunked it in some water because it was so hot. I think this strengthened it. I gave up and finished it the next day with a new drill bit.

Heres a challenge to anyone: Tell me what is different about the car. Something is very different.

As everyone knows, words suck and pictures are ok. Heres some pics. They're huge, thank god. First one is from the mock up stage.

I will get a vid eventually, after I work out all the bugs. It's too cold anyway.. I will probaby have a vid after the snow melts. I got lucky on the day I ran and it was like 45* and the street was half way dry. It won't be like that again for awhile...

You got it! I just placed an order on hobbycity and I'll extend that painfully short battery lead.

I have some MAJOR updates today. I got a 4s lipo and took it out for a spin. This thing is beast. I can flip it over from a stand-still, there is no cogging, and it's very fast. Unfortunately, the servo came off so I thought of ways to re-mount it. This is what I came up with.

first run on 4s

new battery mount

So I got it looking really nice. I can fit the stock .5 rx pack (maybe bec later) inside the rx box. The only problem is that that pack didn't work for some crap with the connector.

The handeling was MUCH better then it has ever been. Everything is now solidly mounted except the battery, which I was planning to mount better later.

I was going at least 30mph into my driveway and went onto my grass. There is a bump there and the car went flying. It did multiple violent cartwheels and it landed upside down.

When I flipped it over this is what I saw.

That is my wost crash I've ever... crashed. I looked for the driveshafts for about 10 minutes in my front yard. I'm sure I looked like a real retard. I can see myself slowly walking around in the middle of my yard looking down at nothing.

I found the important driveshaft and I'll hopefully find the other when we do the spring raking. Or mowing. Now I'll have to remount the motor mount, replace the ball cup and I should be good.

Looks good, sucks that the mount broke. I've been looking through my yard long enough my neighbors don't bother asking anymore Are those the stock turnbuckles? I crashed mine 2-3 days ago and they snapped like a twig, I'm surprised yours are OK (though it looks like one bent).

All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.

No, their not bent. That picture is just $Hi^. It makes it look bent. I'm going to redo the turnbuckles. The rims were rubbing against them so I tried to fix it by moving the steering links forward and chopping off the extra turnbuckle, but it still rubbed a little. I'll do that even more and there will be no way it can still rub.

OK, Just finished putting it back together. NO MORE DICKING AROUND WITH THE MOTOR MOUNT!!

I also fixed the steering binding. I hope I don't have any more issues with the steering. The first pic shows the 2nd and third hole.

After this crash and all this rebuilding I know what the weak spots are. I tried to fix them the best I can and now they shouldn't fail later when I am depending on it to run.
