Losi 1/8 ESC works great with latest firmware -

I am using the Losi 1/8 ESC in my Rustler and it works good now with the latest firmware installed. For the life of me I couldn't get the AM radio to work properly with the ESC, but the 2.4ghz radio had no issues. With the new firmware, some settings have changed, cogging dissappeared, and an AM TX/RX setup works with no problems.
Personally I like the casing and wrap around heatsink better then the cheapo looking one from Castle. The losi ESC comes with those 4mm socket connectors instead of some wires like the Qaurk, MGM, Castle and LT controllers. Software is not as refined as the Castle one, but it isn't bad either. Uploading the firmware takes longer then the Castle products, but how often do you really upgrade firmware?
Here's a vid of me testing the new firmware in my garage with a C50 Hacker
snellemin can you please tell me what your settings are for acceleration? I bought a Losi 8ight Buggy as the package a little while back and just got to run it today for the first time. It is insane, it popped a couple of wheelies and ripped the front tires off the rims and blew out the foam inserts. Cool but expensive. I have seen a lot of people talk about set up on the Castle stuff, but not much on the Losi stuff. Which I am with you, the thing absolutely ripped, just needs to have the user corrected. Thanks.
I just play with the brake setting and throttle curve with mine. Battery cuttoff is set for nimh and everything else is set at default. It runs great on 6S1P A123, but I have to retape one of my rear tires. Insane power to say the least.
I installed the firmware that is dated for January 2009 on the Losi site. There is a newer one available and haven't installed that one yet.
The ESC is rated for 3000kv max. However, I used a 3600 c50 hacker with no problems. My 6yr old son raced/drove the Rustler today for about 20 minutes with that esc on 6s A123 and 1400kv tekno.
ive tryed losi 1700kv combo and 2x 2100kv combo's .. all 3 the esc failed withing 2 battery packs .. 1st attempt 1700kv on 5s geared 45/15 in losi 8T , cogged and failed 2nd pack. but was old firmware
2nd attempt 2100kv on 5s geared 45/14 in losi 8T , again failure 2nd pack but with new firmware
3rd attempt same as above but 45/13 gearing , 2 packs and another failure. no more wasting time and money on losi esc anymore .. back to old setups
( ps ive never blown up a mamba max / neu 1515 1y on 5s 45/13 in the losi 8T )
we have been having trouble with this esc. i sent mine back and 2 other guys have horrible cogging. a stoock 2 year old MM is light years better in same buggy
I updated to F010120.LSC, Version: 2.0, Date: February 25, 2009 Firmware and ran it on 4s A123 w/1512 1400kv untill the packed dumped. Also did a 6s1p A123 pack and had zero issues with AM radio. The only thing I did was set it to run on nimh. Brake 40%. No dragbrake. Temps on motor, esc and battery all below 115F.
Datalog of my GTP with the LOSI 1/8 ESC before I busted the front diff. Brakes set on 10 percent and nimh mode. Motor used was 1515 2700kv and 51/20 gearing. The ESC keeps its cool and still performs well.
Ron Schuur, AKA rocketron told me on March 5th that he had the inventory on hold for the escs and that he was controlling the release. I emailed him back for the reason and he never replied. Ron is over the Xcelorin line for Losi. I used my xcelorin 1/8 system since it was originally released with my LE E 8ight back in Sept and never had a problem until late Feb. I suspected the problem to be a loose bullet connector in the esc. Version 20 of the firmware is supose to be really smooth, to bad I can't use it since I can't get my esc back. FYI the motors have also been improved since the original ones. They went to a carbon fiber wrap on the rotor instead of the kevlar, an they also keyed the ends of the rotors along with going with brass spacers similar to the neus.
