I sold my Jeep! -
02.10.2009, 10:07 PM
Yep, the one in my avatar, Project RUB IT OUT. I want something easier to drive and better suited for upcoming full time college. I'll be separating from Active Duty and going to the Guard. I thought about staying AD, but it just isn't what I want out of life. Sure 20 years then retirement sounds good, but every retired guy I see looks 65 when they're only 40, is overweight, and hasn't really done anything other than serve. Don't get me wrong, I love serving and those guys should be honored for their service, but I want something different.
Anyway, sold the Jeep, looking at Xterras. Anyone on here have one? I want an 02+ with 4x4 and the Rockford Fosgate sound system. I'm looking at an all black supercharged '02 but it doesn't have the RF system. Can anyone tell me if the RF system is worth waiting for?

My brother has an 05 Xterra... can I ask why you're looking at a first gen over a 2nd generation? It really is a great car, on and offroad. Plenty of upgrades for offroading and very comfortable for long trips on the road. Check out Shrockworks for offroad upgrades. Not sure what options there are with the 1st gen, but if you go for the 2nd gen (05+), make sure you get it with the offroad package. Comes with bigger tires, locking rear diff, and a little heavier duty suspension. Let me know if you want more info on the 2nd gen. I can ask him anything you want about the car.

I would really enjoy the 2nd gen, I almost bought one with the Offroad package but it had a rebuilt title and I'm pretty sure he snagged the rear axle out of it with the locker. :(
First gens can be had for around $8K, so I can buy it cash and have some money left over without a car payment. This way it will be $250-$300 cheaper each month! Besides, if I like the first gen a lot, I can get a 2nd gen later on when I finish college. Plus I like round headlights, haha.
I have a few pics floating around here of the Jeep. Search under my name, they should be here still.

An '04 I hope he's had some work done to it. That's the first year they were out and were TERRIBLY reliable. Rear diffs and transmissions, to be precise.
All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.

Oh yeah, 4WD Silver, king cab, 5.6L V8, tons of power. Still gets pretty decent gas mileage too. I'm going to try to add a few upgrades to make the MPG even better, hopefully about 20.

I actually haven't heard anything about those problems. I did hear that the D44-clone rear diff was kinda weak, but that's when you do a lot of towing. I would suspect the transmission is the same way.
Thing is, I don't have the time to hunt for an '05 because another deal like this won't come around for a long time. I'm paying cash, don't want another car payment and this fits the bill for what I have saved up. I checked out the truck well, got under it, checked for leaks, drove it, floored it, etc etc. Everything worked fine and was like it should be.

Thanks Takedown!
Here's a link to recalls and problems. Looks like Nissan will take care of it if there's a problem. They're pretty good at customer service from what I've heard.

Dodge Ram and Toyota Tundra, yes. The other two, the Durango and Ridgeline, I don't like at all. I actually just wanted an Xterra, but this was a great deal.
