shattered my wheel today - 02.28.2009, 11:36 AM

Hi guys,

took my e-revo out today (MMM + 6s) and shattered my front left wheel. The wheel snapped and just flew apart lol. it was pretty cool and a bit gutreching (for me) to watch. So now im in the market for some new wheels!

Even though i just broke one, i'd like to replace all of the stock ones because they are a bit small and i dont like them that much...

basically i want a wheel that is pretty big so i can get over long grass without any problem, fairly wide so it can corner better without flipping, and just generally tough so as not to wear out or crack the rim. Also I hate it when the tires balloon so if anyone knows of a tire that does it the least, that would be very helpful.

I think i want to also upgrade to 17mm or 23mm hexes (i was told a while ago that 17mm were better, but i cant remember why  )

is it worth getting beadlocks to help the tire stay on the rim?

what does half offset mean? does it mean that the rims are further away from the chassis, than if you had standard offset?

I was looking at some big joes, and some mashers and moabs. these are the ones:

http://www.prolineracing.com/p-297-b...40-series.aspx
http://www.prolineracing.com/p-299-m...40-series.aspx
http://www.prolineracing.com/p-304-m...40-series.aspx

and for the rims, i was looking at these:

http://www.prolineracing.com/p-522-l...fset-pair.aspx
im not sure if those will fit the 40-series tires though.

if anyone has any pictures, or any other reccommendadtions, id be most greatful :p

many thanks guys

I like the Losi Bolt-Ons. I run them on Proline 40 series rims with 23mm hexes.
They are taller then the proline 40 series tires, have great traction and seem to not be wearing much at all.
http://www.rcslot.com/pc-radio-contr.../LOSB7206.html
best price I have found on them so far.
I have pics of them on my revo if you need to see them.

Something 40series sounds like what you want- wide and reasonably tall, though I personally find them still too small for my personal tastes, hence my jumbo clawdawg fetish...

Ballooning will occur with any tyre at the speeds you're set up for, so taping the inside of the tyres with a couple strips of duct tape/ gaffer tape is the only real solution at present. Bead locks help keep the tyre on the rim, but the success rate varies depending on the rim and tyre in use- glue it and beadlock rims would be preferable I suppose, but I always take a bottle of the quick setting CA glue with me when I bash.

23mm hexes would seem the logical best choice to prevent the hexes rounding out as its the largest size, just means you have to buy adaptors from Proline or who ever else makes them, and choose rims to match your hex and tyres.

I would suggest looking at the application and compatibility guides on the proline site to see which tyres work with which rims, too many options for my liking which just leads to confusion.

thanks for your reply, but im not buying anything from america right now because of the exchange rate, and also the shipping would be very expensive.

after a bit of research i think ive settled on the Mashers tires, with the LPR Velocity 17mm (½” offset) rims.

all thats left for me now is to choose some 17mm hexes and such. i know very little about which are the good ones, so if anyone could advise me id be very greatful!
thanks

suicideneil: ive heard bad things about the 23mm hexes, but people seem to go for the 17mm ones.. not sure why though!

I dontknow if the 17mm are any stonger or weaker than the 23mm but you have a lot more options with the 17mm size, both are better than 14mm. I was running my VXL rustler and I got a little close to the curb in the street and I hit a small rock @ WOT( 60-70 mph) and slammed into the curb, it destoyed the right side of the front suspension and the wheel flew up into the air ancd across the street, after screaming oh F*ck I settled down and thought " that was pretty cool"....it didnt cost that much to fix

the lpr wheels dont work with the 40s mashers.... the wheels are too narrow and only 3.7, 40s series uses 3.8 wheels that are very wide.....

Here are some moabs on a E Maxx. You will get more driveline stress due to the weight and size of them. [IMG][IMG][/IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

Normal moabs, Not the xls. That ia a stock E Maxx rim/tire. Same size as a tallon. This rim may be the closest. Proline seems to have discontinued the velocity 40 series and wabash rims. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPEB8&P=7 Specs say 40 series tires fit, and they are 17mm hex, with 14mm adapters. I kind of like them myself, but dyed black.

ah i think i've found the right things:

tyres:
http://www.modelsinmotion.co.uk/prod...e=360&tamiya=0

wheels:
http://www.modelsinmotion.co.uk/prod...487&tamiya=258

im not sure if the tires come with foams, but i hope they do otherwise its another thing to buy!

also im not sure if the rims are half offset or not, but i guess it wont make too much difference either way

Wanna bet- the whole point of off set is to make a difference either way (literally)- you can gain or loose an inch or more of width depending on the specific rim/ offset- seriously, look at the proline site and look at the database they have to see whats what with the rims.

Modelsport.co.uk are good for proline stuff, wheelspin models too (do a google search but select UK sites only).

buying wheels is rediculous! They either dont tell you if its for 40-series tyres, or they dont tell you the offset, or they dont tell you the hex size! Its crazy, how do they expect you to buy them?

http://modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunctio...n&ItemID=22103
those look like the perfect wheels for me, but i do not know if they fit 40-series tires!
