Medusa and Nue Motor Timing on MMM? - 03.24.2009, 12:49 AM

Hey guys, I was reading someone explain motor timing and how the ideal timing can differ from one motor manufacturer to another. I have been switching between some Medusa and Nue motors and didn't really think about how that could effect my motor temps. What setting for timing is good for the Medusa and what is good for the Nue when using the MMM? Is timing something we have to adjust when using a Sensorless system vs Sensored (Tekin)? Thanks for chiming in if you do.

I have tested few timing settings and 10 was most powerfull and still kept motor cool.
If you run too low timing, you lose power and motor gets hot (as seen here).
And im using 2200kv 80mm medusa.

I too use 10 degrees of timing for my medusa (50mm 4800kv). I'm running a 3s lipo geared 16/83 in my rusty...motor rarely breaks 140.

I will spank a nitro any day...guaranteed. :)

Your motor should run more efficient and cooler on a lower timing setting.

Thats what i think before, but it aint like that allways, when you cross the "line" things go upside down.
See this thread, for example.

I run "Normal 10" on my Medusa. I've read some folks have had trouble with lower timing on these. Seems like folks running CC and Nue motors aren't having trouble with lower timing.

Medusa's website does say to run it at 8-15 degrees timing for max efficiency so I would just run them within this window. I might experiment just for the experience to see if the motor temps increase with different timing but of course I would monitor closely. If I didn't see any performance difference outside of that recommended window though I would still be inclined to set it back to within that recommended window after the testing.

Not true of multi-pole motors, they work better with some timing advance. Only 2 pole motors will get hotter without generating much more power if you advance the timing too much, generally.

I run 10 degrees on my 80mm 2000kv Medusa with 5s lipo- barely got over 150*F, vastly better compared to feigao-type motors.

I sent am e-mail to medusa about the 50 3300kv in my daughter's truck...He said that as stated above, 8-15 for timing and he was v/specific of motor temps. not to exceed 160

Neu and MedUsa motors run fine between 8 and 15 as stated. I heard from one person that his Neu ran best on 8 degrees of timing, I've got my 80mm MedUsa and MMM set to 12 degrees and didn't notice anything different between 10 and 12.

All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.
