Meaning of "Brushless Conversion" -
04.15.2009, 06:35 PM
I've noticed a lot of people that put a brushless system in their electric truck and say they did a brushless conversion. For some reason, this makes me mad.
I think a brushless conversion is when you put a brushless system in an ex-fuel powered truck. It takes some skill and planning versus dropping in a new motor/controller. Also Lipo conversions? Heck, if I put a new set of wheels on my truck can I say I did a pro-line conversion?
I think at least on rcm we should limit the use of brushless conversion only to an ex-nitro/gas based truck. What is your guys' stance on this?

I personally agree. There is a big difference in the amount of work between upgrading components in an electric truck vs converting it. Even with a true conversion, Mike's mounts and trays makes things almost too easy. I kind of miss the days where you had to figure out how to do things yourself. Even now, I tend to make my own parts unless it is in bigger vehicles where stresses are higher and strength is more crucial.

I agree also. I was originally bugged a little by the buggies and truggies that were enetered into that contest last Decemeber - these guys bought Mike's mounts and battery trays and just screwed them in (not all of them of course...gotta exxagerate a little bit, though!!).
The days of spending weeks grinding the revo chassis into toothpicks and making our own battery trays/esc mounts are gone, me thinks....

I got a personal hygene kit and threw away the hairbrush. Does that count as a brushless conversion?

As far as conversions go, well there are still people (cough cough) that like to do conversions the old fashioned ways! Take Metalman for example, he seems to like making things, and does it by hand too... There are still plenty of people who like to make their own stuff, and then there are people who like to buy stuff and just assemble it...
I like a mix, on the muggy I have one of mike's motor mounts, but made my own battery, esc mount and battery tray mounts... If I had to buy everything pre-fab I would not be able to afford to have all of this stuff!!!
I do agree that putting a bl system in an emaxx or erevo does not count as a conversion. All that was done was to bolt in stuff. But if it makes the less initiated feel more like me I can't really give them a hard time, everyone strives for perfection, and few can get to my levels... (please note how modest I am)

I am on the same boat with linc. I can't afford to buy whole conversions(expecially in these hard times)so I make them. I can buy some lexan cheap and go to town. I just converted my revo which was my last nitro in my collection, into electric by me building a mount, building a battery tray, and building an esc mount. The only think I bought was the FOC.
I am the guy who enjoys working on his rigs as much as he enjoys running them so I really like doing this, knowing how eveything works and getting the satisfaction that you build it yourself.

I agree with pretty much everything in this thread. An E-REVO is not a conversion, a Revo 3.3 that has a brushless setup in it is a conversion, as is a gorilla chassis. If I can make it I will but Mike's stuff is so nice and his prices are very reasonable so it's hard to justify not getting it made by him. For my crt.5 I made my own battery tray, for my RC8T I bought Mike's complete kit. Those are both conversions in my book. My E-REVO....is not a conversion!

I'm glad to see everyone is on the same page sot far.... I have personally made my own mount (kinda had to w/ an outrunner) but I did go the easy way with the tray. However, I made the battery tray mount myself.
Now if only we could get the word out... I'll link to the youtube vid that motivated me enough to make this thread. It shows a retard how to "convert" an electric losi summit to brushless. For dummies. It really made me think...

Ahh, Crap. I don't know the names of those trucks no one cares about. Everyone knows the summit is kick-ass and the stampede is the king of 2wd 10th scale 2wds. No one cares about the highrolelr stampede copier...
