Talking Frozen72's RC18T FT "Budget Basher" Build - 05.05.2009, 07:41 PM

Here is my Team AE RC18T FT that is nearing competition. It's been a long project and I've almost sold it several times. I just need to get a Motor and Motor mount.

So far the upgrades are:

DP Drag Link
DP Gear Cover
ProPulse DirtHawg Tires
RPM Bumper
Hitec HS-65HB
Mamba 25A ESC
and a horrifically painted body

I ordered a eZRun 7800kv motor and a Motor Mount so it should be running in around 2 weeks!!! I can't wait to drive an RC after almost 6 months.

Try to keep it in mint condition if you decide to sell it. What wheels are those, and did the Rhino fit without mods?

I had to take off a small part of the sidewall because the wires are WAY to thick for a 1/18. I might rebuild the back with 14G wire and shorten the balance tabs...

I'm just waiting on the Motor to come in. I also want my HC Deans plugs to get here too but I don't need them since I ordered 1 set with the motor.

I'm proud to say that I'm 99% done with my RC18T FT Build. I have everything in hand minus the eZRun Motor and HC Deans Plugs. They should both be here by Friday. I'm going to test it out for a few days before I send my Mamba to MTM to have the signal wires resoldered.

All of the upgrades so far are:

RPM Bumper
DP Gear Cover
DP DragLink
FT Shocks with O-Ring Mod and Green Slime
Pro-Pulse Dirt Tires
Hitec HS-65HB
Tightened Servo Saver
Mamba 25 Pro (Modded Mamba-25)
eZRun 12T 7800kv Motor
Zippy/Rhino 1750mah 2S 25C Li-Po

Other things I bought for the RC18T FT:

IMAX B5 Charger
SwangHobby Volt/Amp Meter

I took some pictures today and it's amazing the difference good lighting will make:

Well, I just got back from my 2nd ever pack with the RC18T and it was great. (For the most part)

Temps:
Motor - 177
ESC - 120
Battery - 97
Ambient temp - ~75

The bad news:
My rear diff is already starting to die
My antenna tube broke
Motor is still running too hot

The good news:
I rebuilt the diffs much better this time
I got the hang of jumping and not immediately tapping the brakes
Almost zero cogging (The only time was when I was trying too and was barely applying throttle)
I'm starting to like the 18T more everytime!!!

What I need to do/order:
Rebuild shocks
Order 1 set of Steel Gears for the Rear
Order a TheToyz HeatSink
Velcro the battery to keep it from sliding

I'm scared to drive it now because I don't have the money for the Steel Diffs yet nor do I have a spare. And yes they were shimmed correctly...

I started off jumping the x-factor and then my rear diff started to go and I could hardly get up to WOT so I decided I was going to step up my bashing. I then made the jump to where I used to get double backflips with my old RC18MT and I hit it WOT!!! The first jump was a PERFECT backflip and I kept going landing around half of them. Then I went for a double and I landed 2 of those but on the 3rd attempt I didn't quite get enough rotation and I landed on the front end and the turnbuckle snapped. I'm amazed that is lasted so long... Oh yea it was at least 12-15 feet in the air!!!

At least I have a reason to upgrade. I think I'm going to try a set of the stockers but boil them since in the past I had better luck with them...

I ordered what I needed to get get my RC18T running!!!

Order included:
TheToyz Steel Diff Gears (1 set for the rear)
AE Diff Rebuild Kit
AE Shock Rebuild Kit
TheToyz HeatSink
AE Plastic Turnbuckles
AE Body Clips
BRP Diff/Axle Shims

Everything came to a little bit under $60 with Shipping.

It should be here Tuesday!!!
