Which will produce more output? - 05.23.2009, 12:24 AM

So I have a new quark ssb and am wondering what to do with it!

I have a novak hv 6.5 with 5mm shaft. Plan is to run it with the quark on 3s lipo and get a feel for how the sensored function works.

Now the vehicle i will run it is is kinda special. It is a tube buggy based on xl5 pede parts. It is around 1/7th scale and is 2wd. I have a 9l in it right now, and it is geared for 50mph. With the same gearing the hv 6.5 should do 55mph...

I just wonder if the hv will do as well as the 9l? The rotor is smaller in diameter but a bit longer, and the motor is supposedly more efficient?

So whatcha guys think? I will try it out and see how good the quark is. I plan to use it box stock, no ubec or other mods. The buggy is lighter than an 1/8 buggy, but not by much. Fun to run as it has plenty of suspension travel, no swaybars, and 2wd brakes!

With the gearing options I have the 5000kv motor will be a bit too much... I may run it in a speed 10th scale tc though... HEHEHEHE.

I'm betting you like the Novak alot better. If not, You could get the new tuning rotor when it's available. http://www.shopatron.com/product/par...56.35129.0.0.0 I am curious how good that esc does. I run a 4.5 with a Quark 80b in my Slato. It has no problems except a little cogging on start up, which I would like to remedy, and have thought about trying one of the SSB's.

With the SSB, set the torque setting on max. Use the potentiometer to set the esc on max traction.

I will do that Romano. I am guessing the prog card is quite handy?

Yea the program card is very nice to use. Love mine. I tested it with high kv motors and right now it's on 3s A123 with a 1800kv lrp motor on max timing and turbo enabled. Very nice to drive and 2300 goes a long way. Geared 60/22 32P in a Pan Car! The Traction control behaves like the punch control in a mamba max. On 0% I had cogging. The current limiter is a great feature to have, and being able to use a potentiometer to adjust it is icing on the cake. Castle should take note on that one.

I blew up my 80B a few minutes ago. Stupid me used the wrong battery adapter and plugged in 6s instead of 3s2p A123. The fet board looks to be safe, but the brain board is a gonner.

A little update, had to swap some of the equip out of the buggy, so I decided to just throw in a MM and see how it did with the Novak Hv. Way too much wiring to be done on the ssb, and I have to run a ubec over 8 cells nimh (so pretty much any voltage I will run will need the ubec).

Lets just say I adjusted every setting on the MM and even played with the M8 settings too, trying to get the hv motor to start well and run well. I then swapped the 9l back in and had a few fun minutes till I snapped a stock pede driveshaft.

So I have learned that trying to get a novak to work with a MM and a heavier vehicle is a waste of time. The 9l does great, goes faster with the same gearing!?!?! (2700 kv vx 3100 on the hv?) and has more power, even with the timing set on 10 compared to the timing set on 20 for the novak. I did not get a chance to run a full pack thru with the 9l so I have no idea on temps.

I have a feeling this vehicle will get the 1509 4500kv motor on 2s lipo and the novak will go in something else with the ssb. I am going to put alot of my rollers together in the next few weeks... Gotta get some of these beasts moving!
