Kyosho Lazer - 01.25.2006, 01:30 AM

Hi everyone!
Previously I had asked recomendation for an Evader BX Pro. The concensus was to use the Feigao 380c 9t with MGM 120. Will like to know if you think this set up will be also great for the new Kyosho Lazer 4wd? Or maybe another combo?

There wont be any problem with that. Just gear down a bit, since the Evader is a 2WD buggy as far as I konw. From did you get the Kyosho, BTY? Please post some pics of the Lazer for me, Psycho.

The Yokomo prototype looks awesome,i wonder if that's a dual adjustable slipper,ala Durango or just a slipper and adjustable centre one way.The Durango needs a jig and a special set of scales so if that's a dual adj. slipper on the yokomo then that's an awesome inovation,(it has adjustment nuts at both ends of the shafts).I think it's probably just an adjustable centre one way though,with the slipper on the other end.

The kyosho is supposed to be a good car,alot of drivers are using them now.

I got carried away with that X10.. crap.. that is one low CG 4wd buggy..

Why do you want to use a 380 instead of a 540 motor? tell me please.. that's what i asked before, it's not clear to me. It uses a different motorplate (the mounting holes are closer to eachother)

The 380C motors are similar to the hacker C40 motors in that they are 380 motors with the diameter of a 540, and a 540 bolt pattern. So, no motor mount changes necessary. The heatsink would also help, and IMO it looks awesome.

As far as performance, these are lighter motors, and will result in a lighter vehicle (as opposed to one with a 540 brushless motor). Because they use a smaller rotor, the spool-up time will decrease, resulting in a somewhat quicker vehicle. Also, these motors won't pull as many amps, and their point of highest efficiency will occur at lower amp draws than 540 motors.

The MGM Compro 12012 is more than enough for a 380C 9t. A MGM Compro 8012 would work just as well (with a lower cost too). This setup would also work well in the Kyosho Lazer.

Although it would work well in the ZX-5, I don't think the MGM controller will fit. Space is VERY limited in competition 1/10th 4wd buggies. I couldn't get either the old-style or new heat sink cube type of MGM to fit my XXX-4 or Academy SB Pro. If you're racing, your best bet for brushless is the Novak GTB system. If not racing, you'll at least need to find a controller with nearly the same footprint as the GTB and the wires from the controller should come out of the top of the controller, not the sides. When the wires stick out of the side of the controller it really limits mounting options in vehicles that are tight on space.

The X10 has been in the dark for a while, but even though I'm not interested in it. I'll be waiting for tamiya's future 4wd racing buggy.

Okay, i must say, that i missed that C part..

I didn't realized. for a more powerfull setup, my money is on a 540 sized motor though.

IMHO, the 540 is not going to take down a 380 in a 1/10 buggy. 1/10 buggy is almost like 1/10 touring car, but for offroading. The 380 is lighter and spool up faster on 7.2 volts, but even a 6s would not give its full potential in a small buggy if it is not supported with enough rate of amps. My 1930/5 acts poorly at 7.2 and 8.4 volts since it drains a lot of amps.

Did you considered that a 540 has got more power to spin up than a 380?

That's what I was thinking myself. I would imagine you could go with shorter gearing on a 540 to keep up with the 380 easily.

But probably the motor will be undergeared if you go down on the no. of teeth. The best thing is to use lipos with 540 cans in light chassis'. Who knows?!

i have just finished assembling my ZX-5 and can confirm the space is fairly tight in putting a LRP F1 Esc in and my reciver woint fit where it tells you to mount it im thinking of putting it ontop of the servo but does any1 now if this will cause and intefierance?
