I have a tank savage now it weighs 17lbs or so and I was wondering can I go lower on the pinion due to the increase in weight so not much of a strain on the esc/motor? Its stock 20 pinion and i did run with 25 pinion that comes with it for 3 mins and the fan kicked on which is kinda early it seems packs were cool, motor, esc also to touch. I was thinking 18 tooth pinion to compensate for the weight.
Yeah, a little undergeared is fine. Too much and the motor is running relatively unloaded, and that's bad. But I don't think you have to worry much about that driving a 17lb truck unless you gear to 1mph.
17lbs, yikes. IMO, you should be geared for about 35mph.

yeah your about close on the estimate (based on my estimate also) its fater than an emaxx on 14 cells they claim 35 or so im claming 40 on this truck with the FAT joes on there its still fast enough for me.
