Heli Neu w/ Fan on ERBE? - 07.24.2009, 01:38 PM

I did a search and couldn't find a definitive answer. My question is, can you run a Neu 1515 2.5d Helicoptor motor (with fan), in a truck, like my ERBE or LST2 Conversion? With the MMM V3, and on 6s unless you suggest otherwise.

I think the can is a tad longer then a regular 1515 2.5d, and the pinion shaft will need cut down, but that's no big deal. I just want to know if this is a good or bad idea. I can't see how having a fan on the motor would be a BAD thing??

Granted, I'm gearing down to about 68/18, which should be ok running on 6s w/ my big Moabs. yes no?

Thanks!

ERBE: RCM 1/8 Hybrid Diffs, NEU 1515/2.5d/S MMM, 6S, Losi E-XXL CUSTOM, Neu1515 2.5d, MMM, 6s E-SLAYVO PRO ERevo Chassis w/ Pro 3.3 parts, NEU 1512, MMM, 4S.

I've seen a couple trucks using the Heli version Neus, its no big deal so long as they fit (the fan adds to the diameter a little at the rear of the motor, and obviously to the length).

With moabs (6.9") you're geared for 38mph, so that should be fine really, but your motor, esc and lipo temps will tell the full story.

This thread is the first that came into my mind. You may ask Sower if he still uses this type of motor in his conversion and what his experience is with the heli type Neu motors.

You may want to protect the air inlets some way like this to protect the blades of the fan.

Good thing with the Neu heli motors is the air is flowing over the can to cool the motor. Lehner is pushing air through the inside of the motor which is way more critical for windings and the carbon rovings of the rotor if dirt enters via the air inlets.
