PC Power Supply for my: HYPERION EOS0610I DUO II-DUAL PORT - 08.07.2009, 04:12 AM

Guys, I know we touched base on this before, but i wanted to go a little bit deeper on this. What i have is a Antec True Blue 480 PSU. Its a very nice PSU i have had for a while. anyway, i want to use this to power my HYPERION EOS0610I. The Power Supply has the following Values.

What i am seeing here is that it can put out about all the AMPS ill ever need for this charger: 22AMPS (i think).

Question is what do i need to do to make this happen, and will this PSU in fact work with what im wanting to do? The charger can take a maximum Voltage Input Range 11v~28v. I just need a quick run down on what to do to be able to use this PSU. Again thanks guys. HELP!!!

Your charger will pretty much run off the 12V rails, so you'll want to calculate output watt max based on the 12V rail alone, also accounting for any overall maximum outputs, etc.

You'll also want at least a 10% safety margin (20% would be better), so you'll need to calculate that.

With this powersupply, it has a full max load of 264watts on its 12v rail.

If you go to newegg.com and search for powersupplies, just make sure you find one that has a single 12V rail. Many of the newer power supplies have dual 12v rails and I'm unsure if you can splice them together. Because of this, it is simpler to find one with a single 12v rail to run off of. Some of them have 12v rails capable of 60-70amps, plenty to power your charger.

Corsair 650W PSU has one 52A 12V rail.

been using it in my PC for over a year.

not all corsairs have single 12V rail. it depends who makes them. 650W version is made by CHWT

You could also find a cheap (but decent quality) 12v lead acid charger, along with a 12v lead acid battery and use that as your power supply. That way you can even do a few charges when you don't even have power, like if you go out the texas chainsaw massacre site to run your R/C?

The battery can even be an old battery that was deemed unworthy for auto starting anymore.

mentat, you do plus and minus to plus and minus, and plug it in. if it doe not work, you have to connect the green wire to any black wire. this takes the PSU out of standby mode

yes thats the correct green wire - Just cut and solder to a black and then shrink...

It says you have a single rail 12V+ All those yellow wires should connect in the PSU in the same place...

You just need 3/4 yellow and 3/4 black - soldered together to + and -

Arc, are u saying that i should take 3 to 4 yellow and 3 to 4 black and solder together? If so do i get the yellow and blacks from the other wires that i have sorted? Solder and then good to go? Or do i only take the yellow and black from the 12v rail?

Yellow should all be 12+v and based on specs from 1 rail - but look inside psu to confirm

Blacks are all ground - again should all be linked

So gather up all the Yellow and all the Black then solder them together? Yellow is + and Black is - correct? This is provided that they all run to the same area on the PSU?

So is it ok to only gather up the 2 yellow and the 2 black off the 12v and just solder those? or do i need the others?

2 of each would be fine. also, solder the green wire to any black wire. all the rest you can cut off and isolate, desolder, etc.

Or i can do it for ya if you are too nervous. Ive done this quite a few times already.
