i had a 7xl geared for 40 mph and its fast but got real hot, but that was wot on short grass and hard dirt
i would say 8xl geared for 38 mph should be ok, on all surface

Given the choice, I'd go 9XL- a nice 1900kv motor will be plenty for 40mph topspeeds.

I tried a 7XL and 8XL in my buggy. 7XL runs too hot, the 8XL was slightly better, but I think a 9XL may be a better choice as well.

I was thinking 9XL as well, still has room to run 5s if desired also.
