8ight-t question - 08.23.2009, 05:48 PM

I just got an 8ight-t and did the electric conversion. I'm using a 45t spur.

What pinion do you guys suggest for a medium sized track? I'm not sure where to start since this is my first truggy.

EDIT: I'm gonna be running the monster mamba with the castle neu 2200 and 6S.

any help is greatly appreciated.

according to that i would need a 6 tooth pinion with my 45t spur. i think i might be doing something wrong.

I guess i'll start with a 13t or 15t and go from there.

thanks.

Yikes, its because your motor is turning soo many rpm... that motor wind is best on 4s- 6s is really pushing it..

with a 13-15 its going to be rediculously fast.

my buddy drives the 8t with the castle neu 2200 combo and our track is medium. he runs 5s and 14/48 gearing and it is still PLENTY fast. his temps stay great on both motor and esc also. i wouldnt run 6s on 2200kv though. its just too much unless you are looking to do speed runs.

I drive an 8-t with a mmm 1y (2200kv) some times and 2d 2050?kv sometimes, its all too fast for a track on 6s. simple as that. great stuff for bashing and showing off but not practical at all on 6s or even 5s on a track, I run a 15 tooth RCM pinion. Its just a burnout king on a track. Makes nitros look like fools but uncontrollable so I look like a fool too

I think you need to go up on the spur gear. 45 is really low for a truggy. Granted in a buggy it should be good but not in a truggy. I would go with a 48 tooth spur and run somewhere around a 13 and just experiment with what suits you best.. 6s is a bit much. I think 5s is golden with your setup.

im 15p 49s rrp its fast, on 6s you wont ..ok I don't think, you will be able to control it well, even with light trigger finger its just too much. Run it on 4s and if you think its too slow go to 5's..6's on a track ? Ill race my muggy against you pop in 6s and who ever has to buy less parts to fix 'em wins

yup.

Thanks for all the advise guys......As for the taller spurs, i'm running the Losi electric conversion, and i can't go any higher than a 45T spur.

based on Ryu James' friend running 48/14, (3.42) i can run 45/13 (3.46) which is very close in gearing.

I'd like to run 5S, but i don't have any packs, i only have 3S and 6S. I'll have the punch control at 100% and make it as tame as possible. i just don't wanna overheat my motor.

we're not running 20 minute races or anything, it's just a fairly large track he built on his farm so i can stop to cool off anytime. whether or not it's controllable, i guess that's anyone's guess at this point.

i might have to buy a 2S to run in series with a 3S i'f it's too fast on 6S.

Sure you can, just use the stock nitro center diff mount. They will allow at least a 48T or maybe even a 50T.

Or, you can put a spacer under the CD mounts as well to add some clearance.

Thats a smart idea as well. 6s on the 2200kv will be a hefty combination to tame on the track!

I run my 8ight-t w/ a castle neu right now geared 12/50 and it is MORE than enough on 5s lipo.. too much at times as I can bearly get her opened up and we have a pretty nice size track. My Neu 1.5d should be back soon and I will most likely swap back to that motor as I get the top speed but a lot more run time vs the 2200 (1y) on the same setup other than gearing.

Hey Rocket,
IMO atleast try the 6s before making a decision. I think you have a enough experience with throttle control :D and might be able to handle it.
But I personally would not recommend just getting a new pack to go with an existing 3s, unless it's pretty new, as the variables of a used pack could cause problems at lvc.

hey asheck,

nice to see you around!

throttle control was the same thing i was thinking....i took it out tonight on his track, and it was crazy fast on his back straightaway with the 13t pinion. not great on the jumps, but i think that was more me than the 8ight.

temps were a little on the high side (motor) , but it might have been undergeared as i was hitting top speed about 1/2 the way down the straight.

i'm gonna go race at awsome hobbies this weekend and see what people are gearing.

i'll give it a try...i'm gonna be racing for the first time in years this weekend and will check out other people's set-ups as well.

thanks everyone for the advise.
