RCM did good...halfway across the world! - 08.24.2009, 08:14 PM

Hokay...so a little race report.

First off, sorry to say, but I didn't get to snap any pics or get any vids. Please be gentle when booing or throwing rotten tomatoes. My girl was supposed to bring the camera, she ended up forgetting. The other guy who said he was going to be there to take video didn't show either. WTH, FML. Sorry guys. :(

I only ended up running in the two 1/8 cats. I wanted to run in the .5 and the stadium/CORR cats, but I had no one to marshal for me, so out went that. Bummer. Next race, though...I'll be sure to charge up my OWN damn camera and tape it to the damn racer's stand if I have to.

Alright...so on to the race. Format was 2 heats (7mins each) and a Main (7 mins as well). I'll break it down by class.

TRUGGY

Jammin X1-CRT
Hyperion G3 3S 35c/? 5500mAh pack
Neu 1515/1.5D
MMM v3
11t pinion
stock spur

First heat, WIN!!! No stats...the race dude only printed stats from the Main.

Second heat, DNF. Steering turnbuckle came out 2 seconds after they announced that the race was and to finish the lap. #@$&*$%!!!

Main:
Started out slow, the other 5 racers came out hard. Didn't take the lead until about 3/4 through the first lap...tried to stay focused and smooth. Best lap time, 45.1 seconds. I currently hold the record for the fastest lap in this new configuration. Slowest lap time was 63.2 seconds.

Total lap count was 9...a full lap ahead of second place and a 2 laps ahead of last place. Not too bad, I guess. Think I could have eeked out 10 laps.

BUGGY

Jammin X1-CR
TP 40/80c 3S 5000mAh
Tekin T8 2650
Tekin R1-Pro
14t pinion
stock spur

First heat: WIN!!! No stats either...same deal.

Second heat: WIN!!!! Still no stats.

Main: Got tangled up early on...all 4 of us were jockeying for position and hacking eachother in the process. Ended up getting too goosed on the throttle and crashing too much. The second place guy finally started to slow down and race...and built up a huge lead.

Held the lead for about a lap and a half to maybe two laps. Thought I was gonna lose it, but was able to calm myself down and pay attention to my lines instead of him. Finally caught up to him after he decided that cartwheeling through turn #1 might help with lap times.

Passed him, slowly built the lead from there. Finished the Main with 9 total laps to his 8, but he smoked me on the best lap time. He registered a 45.2 as his best lap time, my best lap time was 46.2. Wow.

A nail-biter for me...that's for sure.

All in all, a very good race. My new-to-me buggy was a champ...she ran great with no issues. I'm suprised at how well the R1-Pro held up under race conditions...it wasn't overheating. It cogged a little bit, but it wasn't too bad. In a higher stakes race it might be the death of me, but an easy solution to that is just not to crash.

The truggy did well too, DNF not withstanding. She seemed a little sluggish down the straights and her rear shocks might need to have the oil replaced. She got into the habit of showing everyone the underside of her rear when she hit the jumps...I'll have to take a look at that.

So yeah...there you have it. RC Monster....represented!

Nice work BUSAFIED! You did pretty good.

Now for my race report: (short I know, I'm tired)

MT Class 7 drivers total, 4 QL's, and one 30 MAIN race

Qualifier 1: 3rd
Qualifier 2: 3rd
Qualifier 3: 3rd!
Qualifier 4 3rd!!!

MAIN: 1ST PLACE!!! With fastest lap ever for MT Class on the track!

Right off the bat I was tail nudged by another Revo then ended up into the finish line bail.... a marshal took his time to throw me back on the track too. I quickly caught up to the pack, and it was a bit of a gong show for a couple laps there with everyone together and all. Then after passing them after a few laps and getting a few corners ahead of them I was shoulder to shoulder with a heavily modified LST-2 (hardly anything was stock), I grabbed the lead and held it for the rest of the race! I was so quick around the track I lapped everyone every 5 mins roughly! I'm tellin ya, I was in the zone!

The new upgrades I did to the truck sure helped out, namely new 7955 servo, RPM true-track rear arms, and LPR crimefighters, as well as the newer teflon shocks, E-revo diffs, and new 13mm front axle carriers, but those don't really affect performance. However the truck's diffs felt like they were working better than the old ones, particularly in the straight when hammering on it.

Average lap time (personal): 44.2 sec.
Fastest single lap time: 42.5 sec. Which broke the lap record for MT, btw!

When looking at the other guys lap times, 2nd place driver got 46.x sec lap times, IIRC. Then they just increased from there, I think the slowest guy was like ~49 sec average.

Get this, more than half the truggies and buggies guys have average lap times SLOWER than me, between 45 and 46 sec lap times. I can be racing with the truggies now if I wanted to! I might not, and likely will not win, but I would give them a run for their money! I wonder if I lowered the CoG as best I could, and got better tires, I could be on par with them?

During the qualifiers I just couldn't make a consistent pace, as well as crashing consistently, ending up in 3rd everytime! Then during the 30 min MAIN, I just settled down and got in a zone I have never been in before, and just destroyed everybody! lol

Also, since I was there last, the fastest driver there was so impressed with the BL Revo that he setup a BL Eight buggy with a Tekin(buggy 1900kv.) system and powered by Zippy FM 30C 4s/5000 packs. Pretty quick, but oddly I can pull away from him in the straight?

Anyways, I think that's pretty much it, I will post again, with some pics.

Cheers!

sounds like you kicked some major tail, man...right on! Definitely sounds like you did a heckuva lot better than I did. Lapping every 5 minutes? Dude...they need to bump you up to the A-Main now. Awesome showing, though...pretty dang good if you ask me.

As for the lap times, I think the Revo should be able to hang with some of the truggies and buggies. It's big enough to soak up some of the bumps...or at least, I think it is. You just might be able to at least keep up with 'em.

Sounds like it was a good time, though...and a long race! Congrats on the win...now they're gonna be gunnin for you on the next race.

Shoot...they'll be gunnin for me too.

Let's give 'em a run, shall we?

Thanks guys!

I don't think I would have won if it weren't for the recommendations by a couple members here.

When is your next race Busafied?

BTW, what was your driving style?

Next race? I think we're shooting for 20SEP. I don't think I'm going to run truggy in that race, though. I may just focus on running Stadium and possibly the .5 category. Maybe buggy, but I'm not quite too sure yet.

As for driving style...slow and easy. I mean real slow. Was running a 3S pack in both classes, and the only time I got heavy on the throttle was down the straight for about a second.

Through the turns and the rythm sections I think I was hitting 1/4 throttle at most. Worked out ok...I think out of the total 66 laps I did (both classes combined), I was on my lid maybe about 8 times. I focused alot on running smooth through the woops and doubles and on keeping my lines tight.

I gotta pick it up, though. Going that slow ain't gonna cut it for long.

Yup, I was taking the tightest lines by far out of all the MT's, a nitro Revo just can't turn in very well. My truck was perfectly balanced, very nice... I let the guy that made a BL Eight buggy a try at it, he said he really liked, compared to a nitro Revo. Funny thing, when we were side by side at the corner of the straight, hammering on it, I would actually gain like 6 feet on him by the end of the straight away, which doesn't make sense, as a buggy should be able to accelerate faster than a Revo?

Next race for me is Sept. 6th, then 26, 27 race weekend, season final.

BTW, where did you get the 40C TP packs? Also, is polyquest going to release a 43C pack Enerland based?

Hmm...sounds like your rig is set up pretty good. Don't tinker with it for now. In regards to the Revo vs. Buggy thing, a buggy should accelerate faster, but you need to take into account the motor the buggy has, is he getting more wheelspin, etc.

Best of luck on the next races. We have one tentatively scheduled for 20SEP, but we'll see how that works out.

As for the TP 40c packs, you can find 'em on amainhobbies, rclipos and I think stormer. In regards to the 43c Enerland pack, they have been released...I haven't seen it anywhere aside from rclipos.

I looked at the specs, but I'm not too impressed. It's a 43c constant with a 70c burst. To add to that, they haven't released a 5000mAh capacity battery higher than a 2S. I'm waiting for that one. None of my packs are below 5000mAh...and I don't want to start now.

I suppose I'll stick with the TP 40/80c packs. So far, they have been cranking out the most juice. I love it.
