50C+ SMC pack, unclear whether Cont., or burst? - 08.29.2009, 02:00 AM

I wouldn't hold my breath for 50C Cont. packs just yet, so is it burst rating? Or sustained discharge?

I really find it irritating that retailers don't provide this kind of information.

Everywhere I've read about them packs, says they're 50C Continuous.. but I don't beleive SMC myself... I've seen quite a few failures with their packs at our local RC Club... but I guess you never know... LOL, maybe it's 50C continuous alright.. for 3 seconds...

Well, it's not about the amps that a person cares about, we have had enough amps for a few years now... it's the voltage under load which matters, that is what gives you your punch, and top end power/torque, be it in a aircraft, or surface vehicle. On the other hand, we are pretty close to having all the power we can use now anyways, for instance, a pack like a HP G3, or TP 40C will hold over 3.7v/cell at quite large loads for a good portion of the discharge.

I have read on some forums that the cell manufacturer is for SMC is exclusive, SMC only. So I would like forum member on RCGroups 'everydayflyer' to review these things.

I think SMC is making bogus ratings, but not to them. For instance, 50c cont with 3.1v/cell. I hope they don't turn into another maxamps, but that's where they're heading...
