convert Losi 8B 1.0 - 08.30.2009, 10:34 PM

What all do I need to convert a losi 8 1.0 buggy to brushless? I already have the roller, MMM combo (2200), so I would assume all I would need would be the RCM motor mount, a standard mod 1 5mm pinion (how many teeth?) an some straps for the battery right?

You need the motor mount battery tray and straps.

try a 13t pinion

none of the plastic spurs fit. they're too thick. you need to sand like 1/8" off of the face for them to work in the center diff. why losi used these thick spurs, i'll never understand.

the other alternative is to buy the steel 45T spur. that'll fit with no mods.

yes, a standard 5mm bore pinion will work.

EDIT: losa3552 is the part # for the steel spur.

what is the stock spur with the losi 1.0? Will it work with the RCM? It looks like you are using the RCM and the plastic spur?...

i think the stock spur on the nitro rtr is 47 or 48. but in the conversion, you have to turn the diff around and run it from the other side and that limits the size of the spur unless yopu cut a slot in your chassis. so basically without modding the chassis, 45 is as tall as you can go.

i started out with the 45T plastic spur. i just sanded it down to make it as slim as the steel one. the next 5 8ights i bought, i just went with steel spurs to save me the headache of having to sand the plastic spurs down.

EDIT: i use the RCM mount on all my 8ights.

Look into the Tekno and Losi conversion kits too. Makes everything much easier since they just mount right in.

if you go with the tekno conversion you'll have to use long bore pinions and you can't really gear for super high speed as i think the tallest i've seen was a 17 or 18.

also: even the losi conversion comes with the ultra thick plastic 45t spur and their mount is horrible imo. the rcm mount just allows for a much wider use of pinions.

so with the RCM the biggest I can use without mod is 45t. Ok. Does it come with instructions? LOL

also, what gearing would be good for racing (offroad) with the 2200 on 4s?

you won't need any instructions. once you get everything it's really self explanatory. as far as gearing, a good place to start seems to be right around 45/12-13.

you could also use Brian's speed parameter solver to determine it as well:(depending on the size of the track most gear it from 37-42mph

not to be redundant, but I want to make sure I have everything. I need:

-motor mount
-battery tray and velcro straps
- kyosho 45t plastic spur
- 13t mod 1 5mm bore pinion

anything else?
