Can a Losi twin-motor MLST ESC handle a single stock Mabuchi 540 27-turn motor? -
09.04.2009, 12:15 PM
Ok, I have a Losi ESC out of a Mini LST, which has outputs for two 370/380 size motors. I have already opened up the ESC and removed the four small-gauge wires and soldered on two large-gauge wires to make it a single-output ESC.
Since it was built to handle two 370 or 380 motors, do you guys think it will handle a single stock 540 motor? The motor is a Mabuchi 540, which is 27-turns, but much less powerful than a "good" stock 540 27-turn motor.
The vehicle I want to put it in is one of those 1/6 scale DUB City Dodge Magnums, but it is pretty light, only 2WD, and is geared pretty low. I have converted it to use hobby-scale electronics, and actually have the ESC installed & working, and have even run the car a little inside, but I haven't taken the car outside for a full shakedown run at full-speed yet. I want to find out if this ESC will handle what I am asking of it first.
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide!

Well, BrianG seems to think that it should be ok, and I trust him, so I will let you guys know how it goes after some full-speed shakedown runs.
But, please feel free to post your thoughts on this.

i think its awesome that you're putting real equipment in a DUB ride. It should work, just feel it alot during shakedown if its cool its cool, ya dig?
also, ummmmm pics?

Well, I just ran a full pack through the car, and it did very well. It was pretty slow, but that was to be expected out of the Mabuchi 540 motor, but the Hitec HS-645MG steering servo and modified Traxxas T-Maxx ball-bearing bellcrank worked perfectly...very strong and precise steering! The ESC never got above ambient temperature (86º F), so I am going to install a Trinity Monster Stock Pro 27t dyno-tuned stock motor and see how she does tomorrow. After that, I will take everything apart to finalize the modifications, and take pictures of everything for you guys. I will post it in the Project X forum.
