Need help figuring out budget brushless for revo! - 09.29.2009, 01:04 AM

I used to have a brushless revo (back before there WAS a BL-E-Revo!) and ran it on a warrior 9920/9xl on 14 3800 nimh cells (this was when lipo was just coming out and I didnt have 500 to drop on batts/charger lol).

I loved it...but got out of rc. I am back now with a BL crt.5 (MM/vxl motor) on 3s. I enjoy it but I think I miss having a slightly larger truck that can tackle some more serious offroad stuff.

I am considering buying a E-Revo roller and going from there.

What is a good setup for the e-revo? I dont want to spend a ton of money so a cheaper controller/motor is best. I dont have a ton of time to use on rc so I would rather have to replace a 50 dollar motor after 20 hours of running rather than drop 200 on a hand wound motor.

I have heard totally mixed results on the MMM...can I run a MM Safely on 4s? Is 4s enough for an e-revo? Can I run 5s without running a single 5s pack? (run a 3s and a 2s pack)? I think 6s might be a BIT more than I need. 45mph is about as fast as I need on a revo.

What do the e-revo's battery boxes even hold?

How about some budget lipo's? I have two 3s 5000 "red packs" from ebay that held up pretty well to my abuse and they were only about 40 bucks each about 1.5 years ago.

Any info you guys can give me is much appreciated!

You sure can run the MM on 4s and 5s, just use an external BEC.

If you wait a few weeks, Castle will have available the new Mamba Max Pro, which will be 6s capable out the box.

I think you could pick up a MMP or MMM and a Feigao 11XL again and run that on 6s. Should work fine in the Erevo and have plenty of power.

So to run 5s I would have to run a single pack right? Is there any way to run a 3s and 2s pack?

Do u know the capacity on the e-revo's batt boxes? I was hoping to run two packs but I am thinking two 3s packs might be overkill? I mean..truly you cant have TOO much power :) BUT I also want good run times without having to scrap the factory e-revo battery boxes.

How big of 3s packs can be fit?

Is there a price floating around that the MMP will go for? A feigao 10xl or 11xl is what I was thinking.

Yes you can run 3s and 2s, just wire them in series but the packs must be made of the same cells and must have been used in series/ parallel since new. 3s 5000 packs are advertised to fit, but I'm pretty sure people have fit bigger... MMP goes for $128 on tower...

Awesome, thanks for the help!

Now to another question (Can start a truggy thread if need be). What do you guys think is the "ideal" Platform for a racing truck/truggy that is about revo size?

E-revo
HPI Flux
Hyper ST, or other truggy?

I want bulletproof as possible but cost is a huge concern as well. Roller e-revo's seem pretty cheap (150-200ish depending on whats included), have not priced flux/truggies yet though.

You could go w/a used mbx-5T roller like I did for 200-. Mugen are built like tanks as well.

1. MBX-6 T8 1900KV, RX8 ON 4S
2. MBX-5T 1520, MMM ON 5S
3. MBX-5 ONROAD CONVERSION 1515, MMM ON 5S
4. MRX-3 ON ROAD CONVERSION 1512, MMM ON 6S
5. TEN T 2650 T8, MMP ON 3S

I have to admit, I've been using the Revo for the last while at the races, and it is a B E A U T I F U L Racer.. Just absolutely amazing.. I can say that it makes you a better driver because it actually does what you want it to do....

Ya my last revo was a solid setup even with my custom (IE...rigged and hacked) chassis and setup. Was pretty strong and handled well.

Anyone know the approx weight difference between equally setup truggies and an E-revo? (IE.. same motor/esc/batt's and tires). I would assume its pretty similar, maybe the truggy weighing a few more ounces?

What is the required cell count for truggies to be "fun"? 5s-6s? So many choices out there makes it SO hard to decide what to build!

For the Revo....5s with the proper motor....17-1900kv range will be a very efficient set up. On 6s a 1500 or 1550 Tekin would be a very nice set up as well. Of course with either 5 or 6s, your truck could be silly fast depending on gearing and motor choice.
