Motor upgrades for flux? Also question on wheel wideners -
10.11.2009, 06:29 PM
Hey guys, I am not really up to date or informed on the "big" brushless motors. I am tossing around the idea of a motor swap in the flux, mainly because it's bothering me that it's stock haha. The performance is awesome, but it's still stock! Is there a motor I could swap in? I don't want "bang for the buck" I want the best of the best, I basically just want to know what is out there? If anyone "in the know" could give me some insight that would be great.
Also, I was thinking about a set of wheel wideners but I have heard they just break more parts?
extended chassis is on the way, so I figure I might as well give it some lovin' while it's apart and cold outside. Thanks,
-Matt

Uh you really can't get much better then whats already in the Flux without spending ALOT more money. You could go with a novak sensored system to go with the next step I suppose

No experience with wheel wideners though offset rims will give you extra control and stability.

If your running 2s in series, a upgrade would be a Genuine NEU motor 1515 Y. I would suggest you spend you hard earned money on drive train upgrades and worry about another motor when you roast the one you have now.

I run it on 6s, and you may have a valid point. I more or less just wanted to know what my options were, for future reference. I have the diffs set up to where they seem to be holding, and just installed the HD drive gear. I'd still like a little more speed, maybe because I'm an idiot?

Agreed the only possible upgrade might be a TRUE steve neu motor . But in my opinion most people could not tell the difference with out a eagle tree system .

From what I understand the biggest difference is durability?

tut tut.. someone is being far too serious. We all do silly things at times (like draw a spider w/ only 7 legs.) Best just to have a laugh at it.

Hmm, might be tricky to find wheels I like with a decent offset.

When it comes time for a new NEU, get a lower KV version. It'll run cooler and speed will be more than you'll ever need prior to flight.

On the wheel widening thing - i am not sure exactly what you are after - but i have run RD Logics 23mm Hub Extensions that worked very well - i ran them with Big Joes and Proline Cheyennes - i was quite worried at first, but they are strong as, and hold up very well - even with alot of bung/awkward landings and cartwheels, they have been bullet proof in my truck, but have not heard of anyone else running them funnily enough.

Ok, the 2200 is a 1515 size neu clone.
So the logical upgrade would be a 1521 motor. If you get a smooth can it will bolt right into the stock flux mounts. Nothing else will fit (unless it is the same diameter as a smooth can 15 series neu). I run a 1521 1y (1577kv) on 6s in my large trucks, and it does very well. Since you currently run 6s and a 2200 motor you would need to re-gear quite a bit if going to a lower kv motor. Not sure if you can change the gearing enough to run a 1600kv motor.
As far as going to a Novak system???? Freezebyte, you must be joking, or you are a huge dumbass... 1st the setup you linked is for 10th scale, and novak does not sell anything close to the power the flux/tork setup produces (maybe run 2 of their "8th" scale hv systems?)...
Wheel wideners are not a good idea, extra stress on wheel bearings will just cause continual failures in that area. Get some high qual bearings and use a different offset wheel if you want it to be wider. Not sure but someone makes wider arms, cvds, etc for the savvy.

FLM makes wider arms that work very well also =) I havent had any problems with my wheel extensions or in that area.... yet - but i've had well over 6 months of hard use out of em...
