If I do this, will the LVC on the ESC still work?

The built-in BEC will only power the MM's internal circuitry though. Just remember that you have to unplug the red wire in the MM's receiver connector, when using an external BEC like the CCBEC.

gotcha. Next question, my USB port is shot on my mamba max, so if I download the new firmware to my computer, can I use my castle link to program the ESC through the RX wire like I do my MMM? Or do I need to install the firmware on the ESC through the USB cable to use the new firmware to use the new castle link through rx firmware? In which case I would be skrewed.

You're gonna need that USB port to first upload the new firmware, before you can use the Castle Link to program it. Tough predicament...

Since only the new version contains the ability to download via the throttle cable, you'd have to use the USB port to get it. After that, you don't need the USB port.

What exactly is wrong with the USB port? Can you rig it to work just long enough to get the latest update?

The USB is probably easy to fix, most likely a bad connection somewhere. You can open it up, go in there with a continuity tester, and find the problem yourself, or send it back to Castle. If your warranty has expired already you might as well try to fix it yourself first. If you still have a warranty might want to think about letting Castle fix it.

This is probably a dumb question, but is there any chance the USB on the controller is fine and the problem is in the USB cable or your PC?
